Athiss took a deep breath as he threw the bag that he knew he needed to pack onto his bed. A bed that he no longer wanted to sleep in, in a house that felt emptier to his heart than ever, but he knew that this was his home. This was the place that he wanted and needed to be.

Slowly running his hands through his hair Athiss wondered not for the first time what made him jump on board to talk at this conference, A conference of his peers, a conference that would have every eye on him.

And unfortunately it was not because he was the youngest surgeon to be running a hospital either.

It all had to do with whom he brought back to his bed. It wasn't as if he would jump anyone that had a dick. He had standards and sorry to say none of these doctors or nurses did it for him.

His heart belonged to one and only one.

He knew that he loved Vaughn, that was plain as day. And it frustrated him that the man refused to sign the papers, the papers that would set them both free. Free enough so that they could move on, and do what they wanted.

Quickly biting his lip Athiss wished that he could go back in time and tell his younger self that marrying Vaughn would be the worst mistake of his life that all that would await them was heartache and pain.

But then again a part of the him now, knew that the him from the past wouldn't have listened no matter how much the man he was now would have to suffer. He loved Vaughn that much, back then.

And now it felt like the love he knew he still held for the man has transformed into hate and pure rage. Sometimes he wished that they would have stayed enemies with just one common ally in the form of Cheryl.

Then maybe this heart wrenching pain that he was feeling wouldn't be here. And he could smile a real smile when someone mentioned Vaughn, which lately seemed to be a lot. He didn't care what Vaughn was doing or how many new porn videos would be coming out starring his stupid husband as the main subject.

Did people not see that it was wrecking him, that everything that Vaughn had said was a lie? Why did his stupid heart have to have hope that the man was being sincere? That when he had asked for him to wait for him for a measly three months that he had meant it.

Time was almost up. And then Vaughn would have no reason not to sign the papers. And that day in Athiss opinion couldn't come fast enough. Taking a deep breath he blinked hard as tears threatened to fall, who was he kidding he still loved Vaughn just as much if not more than he did when they had said I do. And yet it seemed as if the only one that didn't want to acknowledge that was him.

But for him it was safer that way.

Slowly running his hands through his hair Athiss wondered why, when the lady that was setting up speakers for the medical conference called and asked him to speak, his mouth said yes before his mind and heart could catch up.
