He hated the silence, he would prefer even yelling to this. But he knew that the man next to him was tired. You could see it in his eyes and the way that he held himself. Sighing loudly, he was about to comfort the man when he heard the man's chipped tone surround him. "Let's get this taken care of so I can leave and never look back."
Raising his brow slightly as he went to question the man, Athiss turned to him and whispered: "It was nice talking to you. It really was Vaughn. Don't doubt that. However, nothing has changed. I'm not entirely sure that I can trust you. And that above all else has me wanting you to sign those papers. I need someone that I can trust to be faithful to me, to turn a blind eye when someone's flaunting their assets and with you I'm not sure that will ever be a possibility. I used to be naïve with just wanting your attention. But honestly, Vaughn, I'm not even sure if it turns out that those kids aren't yours if I'll ever be able to forgive and forget and believe what you tell me at face value. I would always be questioning if what you are saying is the truth, or some fabricated lie that you tell me to my face when you turn away and go behind my back and do the opposite. How can you possibly think that I could be in a relationship like that? I can't Vaughn!"
Just as Athiss went to walk away Vaughn quickly reached forward to stop the man's steps.
He knew that the tears filling his eyes were likely to fall at any second. But he didn't care. He hated that it was his actions that caused this. He hated that he was about to lose the man for good and no matter how much begging and pleading he did, it was for naught. There was no way that he could stop it.
Quickly gulping he allowed his eyes to look up into Athiss eyes, as he did he whispered: "I'm not sure what you want me to say, Athiss. I love you!" Watching Athiss intently he watched as the man pulled his arm from his grip as he spoke: "Saying I love you means nothing Vaughn. It's actions that speak. And honestly part of me is hoping that those kids are yours because of the way that you look at them. You love them more than you have ever loved anyone, and that includes me. They need someone like you in their life."
Vaughn was about to say something when he noticed Athiss fists where coming together and opening quite rapidly. He'd give anything to help the man with his anger and his worries. But he wasn't sure the man in front of him right now would listen or want his touch. Honestly, the only thing that he could do in this moment was follow the man storming through the halls. And hope that no one interfered in his war path.
Just as they stopped outside the room Vaughn watched as Athiss sat down in the chair and quickly pulled out his cell phone promptly ignoring him. He wanted nothing more than to set the record straight, but he knew that for now what they had spoken about earlier was as much as he was going to get. And that irritated him. He hated waiting. He wanted everything to be fine. He knew that he deserved this. But that didn't make any of this any less hard, any less heartbreaking. All he wanted was to be able to love Athiss, and for the man to love him back as well.
