Chapter Twenty-One: Vaughn

Vaughn eyed his image in the mirror as he sighed for the billionth time. He knew that where he was going it would be nothing but screaming, tears and Laylia denying everything and anything. But he wouldn't give into the tears. It was time for her to figure out her life as he was figuring out his.

It was time that they both learned how to live their lives. It was honestly time for them to grow up and be the adults that he knew that they could be. Vaughn knew that it was now time for him to stop holding her hand, and giving her money whenever she asked for it.

Because now that he thought about it that wasn't helping anyone.

He knew that leaving the little girl would be hell for him because he loved her. He had been there for her since the beginning and honestly he thought of her as his. Even if he wasn't sure if that was the case or not. All he wanted to do was protect her from harm.

But sometimes in life you have to make decisions. Decisions you'd rather not have to, and decisions you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy. This decision for him wasn't an easy one if he was being honest, but for him Athiss was all he wanted and needed to live happily.

So the decision to walk away was one he was willing to do.

Vaughn however knew that was only one of the steps that he needed to do. The first and most important one in his eyes was to get rid of Laylia. Slowly running his fingers over the ring that lay promptly on his ring finger Vaughn knew that as long as Laylia was in his life nothing would be able to progress between him and Athiss.

That there would be no hope for Athiss to hear him out.

Taking in a huge breath of air Vaughn let his fingers fall from the ring as he quickly started raking his fingers through his hair as he smiled at the thought of his husband. The man he would win back no matter what he had to go through to do it.

Rapidly blinking his eyes as his lips trembled Vaughn sighed loudly. Because he knew that the next time that he and his love talked Athiss would most likely be mad at him. After all he had asked the man to wait for him. And with grand fashion that was known as his normal behaviour, he hadn't contacted his husband even once.

No matter how badly he wanted to.

The main reason why he hadn't called Athiss was, because he was afraid that he'd promise the man something that he'd later flake out on. He didn't want to hurt the man more than he already had. He now understood and knew for a fact that he had hurt the man he promised to love and cherish until death do us part.

He had hurt him more than he'd like to think about. But he knew that there was no escaping what he had done to Athiss in the past. Mostly because the past dictated how he wanted to move on with the man of his dreams into the future.

And yet through all of the heartache and pain Athiss stayed. If that didn't tell him how much Athiss loved him. He didn't know what did. And now it was time for him to prove to Athiss just how much he loved and needed him.

He knew that it wouldn't be easy, but he had to try. No matter what obstacles he had to overcome. He'd overcome them. Quickly letting his hand drop from his hair Vaughn took one last look in the mirror before grabbing his wallet, phone and keys as he made his way out of his apartment.
