Chapter: Forty-two

Licking his lips as he strode toward the door, Athiss couldn't think about what any of what he was feeling now. Every emotion that he had tumbling around in his head felt like he was on a whirl wind, with no way to stop it, the only thing that he wanted to do was run back to Vaughn and let the man hold him.

But he couldn't.

He was afraid that he was going to get hurt again, and that he was going to crash and burn. That was the last thing that he wanted or needed. Shaking his head to clear the thoughts from his mind Athiss slowly dragged his feet to the front door of the estate.

Running his fingers through his hair as he stopped at the front of the door he knew that he was running away, and he hated himself for it. After all it wasn't every day that Vaughn asked him for something that could help their relationship get back on the path that it was meant to, but at the same time Athiss felt like Vaughn didn't really want to know the truth.

That right there was what was making him wonder, and that is also the reason why he ran.

He wanted to give the man some time to cool off and think about what he had said, Athiss could get the test scheduled with no issue at all. All he had to do was call in a favor, it wasn't as if the testing was going to be different, he just wanted to make sure no one would ask questions.

A part of him knew that he may be breaking some laws, but to help Vaughn he would do anything. The only part of the law that he would be breaking is the legal guardian, although he wasn't sure if there was any legal guardian of these kids.

Letting his fingers drop from his hair Athiss sighed as he ran his hands across the keypad to the left of the door, blinking as the light turned from red to green before the door clicked open. As he stepped through the threshold, Athiss couldn't help the thought that came across his mind when landed face to face with his cousin, Ezekiel.

Honestly, this man was one of the last people that he wanted to see.

This man didn't care about his feelings, the only thing that he cared about was the fact that he wasn't talking to him. He couldn't see why the fact that he was Vaughn's boss, and allowed the things that happened to come to fruition, was a bad thing.

All he wanted to do was make excuses, as to why he wasn't to blame. But he was just as much to blame as anyone else who was involved.

As he went to step around him he heard Ezekiel speak out to him, but he didn't care what the man had to say. He was on a mission, to see his grandfather. He needed someone who wouldn't judge or push him towards Vaughn.
