Chapter Thirty-nine:

Opening his mouth so air could fill his lungs Vaughn's eyes locked onto the two sleeping angels in his back seat. Honestly, he had hoped that his sister Cheryl could have made this trip with him. But the way that her health was deteriorating it was only a matter of time before her time was up.

Shaking his head, he knew that if he would have asked her she would have jumped up and did it. But for some reason he felt like her being there would do more harm than good.

Besides-that was the opposite of what he wanted.

He was already feeling like she was too deep into their relationship as it was. Besides only a crazy person would ask the person that they knew was in love with their significant other for help, even if they knew that their significant other didn't feel the same way.

Although, he knew that she couldn't help it, he still resented her for it. Because Athiss was his husband, and only he should look at him the way that he does. However, he knew that when it came to Athiss no one could help falling for the man.

Nevertheless, that didn't mean that he was willing to share, willing to allow his sister within touching distance of his love. He was starting to feel like he did all those years ago when they had gotten together.

He only hoped that he wasn't too late.

Slowly turning his eyes back to the ring in his hand Vaughn gnawed on his bottom lip as he twirled the ring in his hand wondering if this was truly the end of them, or if he honestly had a chance at getting back all that he had lost thanks to his actions.

Actions... that caused this rift to form between them.

Quickly letting his lip go Vaughn took another deep breath of air as he placed the ring slowly back onto his finger, whimpering at the coldness of the metal as it contacted his warm skin. Vaughn swiftly placed the car back into drive as he backed up the car hoping that they would be able to make it in good time to the airport.

He knew that Ezekiel would have made sure that their family jet was there, had he asked. However, he felt like he no longer had any right to use it especially not after all that had happened. He was no longer connected to the Ceryian's in any way that mattered.

So, he had no right.

Not that he wasn't tempted to cave and call Ezekiel, he was so tempted that it took all his willpower to not call the man. After all the last thing that he wanted to do was take two little kids on a normal plane, besides the layovers and changing from plane to plane didn't seem fun at all.

But he always wanted to show everyone that he could be independent. Slowly licking his lips Vaughn eyed the packed parking lot trying to find an empty space so that he could park.

Once he found one, he slowly and cautiously maneuvered the car into the parking space, sighing in relief when he made it into the tight space without hitting vehicles around him. After parking Vaughn unbuckled his seat belt and eyed the kids as they both slept soundly.
