Chapter Forty One:

Pulling back timidly, Vaughn was reluctant to do so, because he didn't want to lose contact with the only person in the world that had ever made him feel full, and vibrant.

Now that he was standing here in his presence, he couldn't help but notice just how tired Athiss looked. The man looked like he was barely hanging on. He honestly hoped that it wasn't because of him that the man looked like this.

Just as he went to speak he heard Athiss voice wash over him. "I'm so sorry Vaughn- I... didn't know what came over me, please forgive me?

Eyeing the man, Vaughn knew that there was nothing to forgive so speaking softly to the man in front of him Vaughn grabbed him by the wrist as he started to speak. "Athiss you do know that nothing that happened between us was your fault, right? It was all me love. Everything was my fault. The only thing that you're guilty of is loving too much and giving too much of yourself that you forgot to see that you are an amazing man who deserves love and happiness. I only wish that I would have seen it before now, before I made all the mistakes that I did. Because love, the person that I needed was right beside me this whole time. It was you. You were always there keeping me grounded, and what did I do? I trampled on your feelings, your love and showed you that I didn't care, that I didn't take what you needed into consideration. I'm so sorry love. I know that sorry isn't enough, not when the kids' paternity is up in the air."

Apprehensively Vaughn let Athiss wrist go as he did, he looked over at the man as tears streamed down his cheeks. "Why did you hurt me like this? Why couldn't you have just come to me and told me what was bugging you, that I wasn't enough Vaughn? I would have done anything and everything to make you happy, to help you- I would...

Quickly wrapping his arms around the man once again, Vaughn was surprised when Athiss pushed back with a storm behind his eyes. As his anger came to the surface Vaughn stepped back as Athiss words hit him like a ton of bricks. "No! Don't touch me Vaughn, not when you don't know the paternity of those kids, not when for years you were sleeping with her, while I was waiting for you. I know I slept with Jai once, and that was a mistake. I will never make again. But I don't- I can't get my hopes up just to have them crushed again by you. It hurts Vaughn. It hurts so damn much that there are days that I wish I die while I sleep. Some days I can't eat, because eating makes me feel even worse. I even keep pushing Cheryl away knowing that she's dying. But I can't help it. She's your family first and foremost, and yet I'm scared Vaughn, I'm scared of losing you and her. Because I know the moment that I lose you she's gone too. She's your sister. I'm just her best friend.
Slowly licking his lips Vaughn quickly pulled Athiss into his arms, he didn't care how hard the man was hitting him, or how wet his shirt was getting, he was tired of them acting like neither of their feelings mattered. He was tired of everyone thinking that they had a say in it. Hell, if it was up to him he'd let Athiss fists hit against him for the rest of their lives if it meant that he could be in the man's presence.
