Dream blinked wearily around the room. Soft whites and golds. A corner dedicated to Ink was an eye sore of paint splatters and an oak wood desk.
He groaned quietly in pain and sat up. His hand held his forehead. He had a massive headache. And boy did he feel nauseous. He could barely remember what happened last night but waking up without clothing was enough to explain.
His feet dangled over the edge of the bed as he looked over his shoulder at Ink. His eye sockets teared up slightly but he shook his head to dislodge them. He tentatively put his feet on the ground and hissed in pain, sucking air between his teeth. "Ah-" he whispered to himself.
He heard what sounded like struggling footsteps out side his door. He walked over to it, ignoring the pain and placing his head against the door. He listen the the noise then cracked his door. He could see Blueberry halfway down the stairs with his forehead against the wall.
Blue had been acting off lately.
Distant.
Cold.
Avoidant.
Masking.
...
It brought back memories. Nightmare started acting like this when they were kids. It had been all of a sudden too.
Just like now.
Blue had never acted like this before, slipping his emotions out of Dreams range. He was constantly avoiding them, especially Ink. Blue was willing to hang with Dream alone but if Dream was leaving Blue would leave immediately before and he wouldn't be back till long after Dream got back.
As if he was scared.
But that wasn't always the case. Sometimes Ink would pull him aside to help him with things as Dream left and he always seemed upbeat and happy to help Ink.
...
Something was wrong.
Dream knew something was wrong. From the very day Blue met Nightmare. He knew something was up.
Someone was hurting Blue and Dream had a feeling he knew who too.
He was about to go ask Blue what was wrong when he felt a tug on his left hand. He jumped, looking down at it. Nothing held it but he knew exactly what caused it.
He turned on heel and went back to the bed. Ink was awake and staring at him.
"What's wrong?" Ink asked softly.
"Nothing, Blue might be sick though. He doesn't look to good..." Dream whispered back, heading for the closet.
"I'm sure he's fine Dream." Ink said in a strange tone of voice. Almost like he was hiding something.
Dream ignored it knowing that confrontation would lead to something undesirable. He shifted through his side of the closet, black under suits, his ripped looking dull yellow over vest with blue tips, his various belts, gloves, detached sleeves, and yellow boots filled the area.
He grabbed what he wanted out of the closet and got dressed. He headed downstairs eventually, leaving Ink.
He reached the kitchen where Blue was making some pancake mix.
He gently kissed Blue on the head, hoping some positive energy would help the blue wearing skeleton. But he stumbled.
Blue stumbled. Like His knees gave out. Dream caught him and realized just how tired Blue had been looking lately.
"Blue are you okay...?" Dream felt bad and kinda sad that he let Blue get like this. He was Blue's best friend, he should've noticed something was wrong. Then he noticed that Blue felt oddly squishy, human like almost, but the second he felt that Blue had stood on his own feet.
"Y-yea... I'm okay... just... tired I guess." Blueberry muttered. He stood up with a fake bright smile. "Besides! The Magnificent Blueberry is always okay!" His smile faltered a bit and Dream knew he was faking. He decided that they were definitely having a private conversation later. "And even when he's not he will pull through. I always do. Mweh heh heh heh..." he chuckled softly.
Dream felt his head spin lightly as Blue radiated negative energy. He knew this might not be the best thing to say but he also knew that if he wanted to stay near Blue would have to ask him to be careful. "Alright, just be careful with your negativity. You're making me dizzy."
He felt bad as Blue instantly pulled his emotions back but it was necessary."O-oh! S-sorry!"Blue stuttered as Ink came bouncing down the stairs.
As the god of creation entered the kitchen Dream felt a sudden wave of anxiety from Blue. His head swam and he glared at Blue who one again pulled his emotions away.
"Sooo... how many eggs-" Blue didn't finish his sentence, turning off the stove and rushing away. Dream followed him to the bathroom and the door slammed in his face. He heard the click of the lock and Blue in pain.
He knocked on the door, begging him to open it. He may have been switching languages in his panic but kept asking.
"Blue! Open the door! Please?" He asked in what might have been Japanese, he said something in Arabic and something in Spanish.
He hadn't heard much of anything anymore but he could feel excitement and terror. Dream suddenly had a feeling he knew what happened. He sat against the door for a bit, feeling Blues desperate need for comfort but unable to help.
Ink came by eventually asking what was wrong. Dream could feel Blue's anxiety rise at the sound of Ink's voice."He's just sick." Dream lied carefully. Ink thankfully bought it and left. Presumably to check on the AU papers that floated far outside in the little void they called home.
He heard the lock clock and suddenly he fell back as the door was opened. He looked up to find Blue leaning over him and crying.
Dream immediately shifted and sat up, facing Blue. "Blue whats wro- ng..." he faltered mid-sentence as he realized his friend was shirtless. His adorable chubby ectoplasmic body was glowing a cobalt blue and in the middle, towards his legs, was a tiny soul. The size of a huckleberry. "I- oh..." Dream whispered.
Blue was shaking and for some reason, guilty.
"Blue... what happened...?" Dream asked carefully. The way his friend was acting told Dream this was most likely not an action of Blue's choice.
"I-... I-..." Blue was refusing to make eye contact with Dream and he got a sneaking suspicion that Blue was a victim in this.
"Alright alright... you don't have to answer that..." he whispered calmly, then another thought crossed his mind.
He gently hugged the sobbing boy, holding him closely like a mother.
Blue started to calm down, clutching Dream's cape like scarf. As his eye sockets exhausted their tears, Blue was left hiccuping and shaking in Dreams arms.
"Do you want to keep it...?" Dream asked quietly.
Blue froze, as if the thought of abortion hadn't crossed his mind. "Yes." He whispered. His fingers lightly trailed against his stomach, the huckleberry sized soul vibrating in response.
"You don't have to answer this but... who was the other...?" He trailed off as Blue looked at him with hurt and guilt in his empty sockets.
"..." he didn't respond but looked like he was completing on telling him. "I don't want to say." He whispered eventually.
"Please..? We can stop them from doing this again if you just tell me Blue..." he whispered back.
He shook his head defiantly and squished his face into Dreams scarf.
"Well... what do you want to tell Ink? You know how he is when pain comes to 'his creations'"
"I don't know, it's fine. We don't have to tell him anything. He can fill the gaps himself." Blue seemed to growl.
"Secret?" Dream asked.
"Sure."
