Chapter 10

"Shh. Ingay talaga ng bunganga mo kapag kumakain," I heard Shantelle's voice. Parang may kaaway ito.

I lazily opened my eyes and saw Saryia and Shantelle eating while arguing.

"Pake mo ba, ga—" Saryia didn't finish her sentence when she saw me looking at them. "Oh my! You're awake!" She quickly put down her burger and rushed to my side.

"You made us so worried!" Shantelle followed right after.

I sheepishly smiled. "I'm sorry, guys," I said apologetically.

They groaned in response.

"Pasalamat ka at may sakit ka. Kung hindi, kanina pa kita sinapak," Shantelle huffed.

"I feel better now," I said with a smile. "Ano pala sabi ng nurse?" I asked after a moment.

Mas okay na ang pakiramdam ko ngayon kumpara kanina at kagabi. Hindi na rin masyadong masakit ang braso ko na nadaplisan, dahil naka-benda na ito.

"Kaya ka nilagnat dahil nagka-infection 'yang sugat sa braso mo. Mabuti nalang naagapan agad," Saryia explained. "Nakakatampo ka, hindi ka man lang nagsabi sa amin. Paano nalang kung mas malala pa ang nangyari sa'yo, ha?!"

Napabuntong-hininga ako. "I'm sorry. Balak ko naman talaga sabihin sa inyo, kaso naunahan ako ng takot," I said sincerely.

"You made us so worried. Please don't do that again, okay?" Shantelle said gently, stroking my hair.

I nodded. "I promise."

Saryia smiled. "Good, good."

They both gave me a soft hug and then pulled away. I slowly sat up because my back was starting to hurt from lying down too long.

"WHAT?! MALAPIT NANG MAG-ALA-SINGKO?!" I shouted when I saw the clock on the clinic wall. Gano'n ba ako katagal nakatulog?! "Oh my god! Mga kapatid ko!" I was about to get off the bed when my friends stopped me.

"Hey, relax. Pinasundo ko na sila sa driver ko," Shantelle said. "They'll be here any minute now."

Nakahinga ako nang maluwag at napasandal sa pader.

"As if talaga makakalimutan namin mga kapatid mo," Saryia giggled.

"Hehe. Thank you, guys!"

"Anytime."

"No problem."

They said in unison.

Afterwards, they told me everything I needed to do so my wound would heal quickly, and handed me the medicine the nurse gave them.

Since I was starving, I got off the bed and joined them at the table where they were sitting.

"Dami nito, ah," I said as I grabbed some french fries.

"Libre ni Miss Cromwell," Shantelle replied, making me look at her in disbelief.

"Eh? Totoo?" I turned to Saryia.

She nodded. "Akalain mo 'yon? All we thought was she's a heartless prof—"

"Who's heartless, Rodriguez?" Saryia was cut off mid-sentence when Miss Cromwell suddenly appeared with Prof Griffin.

Saryia choked and quickly grabbed the milk tea on the table and took a big sip. Shantelle and I tried hard not to laugh at her.

If I were in her shoes, I'd also want the ground to swallow me whole.

"W-Wala po, Miss Cromwell," Saryia answered, her face now flushed red.

Miss Cromwell crossed her arms, raising one brow. "Thought so."
