{Several Weeks Later}

A honk makes me glance up swiftly. My eyes dart around till I see Jack in his car. A low sigh escapes my lips as I push myself up away from the wall and head towards the car as my fingers grip my book bag straps. I make my way to the car and open the passenger door sliding into the car.

"Hey cub, how was school?" Jack asks, tapping on the steering wheel. A smile on his face.

"It was fine," I respond, giving a slight smile and placing my book bag on the ground in between my legs. Jack nods from what I can see out of the corner of my eye. I nod and grab the seat belt, pulling it out some then placing it into the lock. I lean back and feel Jack begin driving.

"Fine? You've said that since you started," Jack says, taking a right turn. "Have you made any friends? Join any clubs?"

"No and no," I say, shrugging. "Andy still at Sullivan's I take it."

Out of the corner of my eye I see Jack nod. "Yeah, yeah she is. Hey she still cares Y/n."

"Cares. Yeah," I say lowly, leaning my head back against the seat and looking out the window.

"She does Y/n. I know it's been a rough couple of weeks. Hell month, but she's grieving. Andy... Her dad was a good man. Good captain. It was a great loss and he did it for her and for you so you wouldn't lose Andy."

I stay quiet. I haven't really seen Andy since what happened. It's been a month and a couple weeks. She enrolled me in school but after school I'd end up at the fire station or with Jack or with Maya and Carina. A couple times I was at Amelia's. I only spent maybe 2 or 3 nights at Sullivan's house with Andy. Other than that I haven't seen her or really spoken. She's texted me checking in but it feels off. I know she's mourning her father's death but it hurts. Hurts not seeing her, talking with her. I just don't feel wanted but do at the same time.

For the first couple of nights Andy would look at me with tears in her eyes. She would just hug me, wouldn't say anything. It got to the point Sullivan called Jack and Jack came and got me after a week. And when Jack needed a break I'd go to Carina and Maya's. Or Amelia's. Then Andy mentioned something about school and put something in motion so I've been doing that. A few tests I took determined where they were going to place me. Sophomore year. Which makes sense considering I'm 16. Now. I didn't tell anybody my birthday was, is today. I never celebrated anyways.

"She'll come around Y/n. She's grieving. But hey, tell you what, today, it'll be a fun day."

"A fun day? You have work," I say as Jack nods and pulls up to the firehouse parking on the side of the road. He puts the car in park and nods.
