"So Andy's at 23 now?" Caroline asks as we walk towards the house. "That's weird. Joey and Tuck said she was 19 bound. She even grew up at 19."I nod my head up and down. "Yeah. She said it was punishment for something. She was acting kind of weird when she got home."
"Weird?" Caroline questions bumping into me slightly as we walk. I nod.
"Mhm. I'm not sure how to explain it. Something just seemed off with her," I say and shrug.
"Well maybe she had an off day. Was she weird this morning when you left for school?"
This morning? I saw her briefly. She even offered me a ride to school. I told her I was walking with Joey and Tuck like I usually do. She didn't seem upset by it but maybe she was? But that was this morning. Yesterday was a whole other thing. She was being way too nice. Yeah Andy's nice but usually she tries to parent too. Something's going on with her.
"I barely saw her this morning," I finally respond as we get to the complex. We head up and I unlock the door, pushing it open. I go in first and hold the door open for Caroline. My eyes scan the room for any signs of Andy. It was her off day but it looks like it did this morning. I clench my jaw and realize Caroline's inside. I shut the door and lock it.
"Doesn't look like she's here," Caroline says. I look at the girl and see her looking around. A thin smile spread across her face. I nod and point towards the hallway.
"My room's that way," I say. Caroline instantly begins to lightly skip towards the hall. My eyes slightly go wide hurrying after her. When I make it to my room Caroline's looking around. "I don't have much."
I feel this odd feeling wash over me as I watched her blue eyes dance about the room. It felt weird for somebody other than Andy and I in this decently small little room. It didn't have much but it had what was necessary.
"It's homey," Caroline speaks gently l, spinning and pointing towards a wall. "But I would put something on that wall. You could put some of your drawings up?" She spins and our eyes meet. She enthusiastic as she spoke. She wiggles her eyebrows waiting for me to speak. But my eyes just lingered on her's and I shrug, slightly kicking at the hard wood floor.
"They're in the closet," I admit, under my breathe. I watch the girl's eyes go wide. She tears her eyes from mine and scans the room before heading instantly over to the closet door. My lips separate, ready to protect but the door's swung open and Caroline's hidden behind the door. I stare at the door that's blocking us from one another, tilting my head.
"Y/n, what the-" Caroline cuts herself off and steps back. "I've never seen these ones. These- Why are they in the closet and not on display on that wall?" She points to the empty wall again. A small chuckle escapes my throat as I slip my book bag off and head over to the desk, setting it down at the chair. When I stand up fully I turn myself to where I'm facing the girl who's still admiring the drawings, sketches inside the closet.
I shrug. "I didn't want Andy to get mad at me for putting them up so I just started putting them in there and just kept doing it. She never looks in that closet. So I deemed it safe..."
"She wouldn't be mad at you for decorating Y/n." Caroline glances towards me, she tilts her head. Her eyes gentle. "She loves you girl. She wants you to feel at home."
I shrug, looking at the closet. The drawings and sketches covered the wall. Some were still hidden behind the clothes hanging up.
A sigh escapes Caroline's lips as she comes over and takes my hands into her own. I look down and see her thumbs rub back and forth feeling the soft smoothness of it. I pick up my head and meet her eyes.
