My day continued as good as it started. I had a lot of fun and when it started raining we danced in the rain like fools. It was really great.
We went back inside laughing and changed into warmer clothes.
After a while we were all sitting on the couch in the living room and I could tell something was going on because everyone was avoiding eye contact with me.
Seeing I was confused, Ross started speaking
"You see Hailie, you already know about us, but we know almost nothing about you and your story. Would you like to talk a bit about it?"
"I, I don't know. It's just that I'm not really confortable telling about my past, but I understand your point... I'll try I guess." I said not really convinced.
"Just, stop whenever you feel like it. We don't want to force you into anything" Rocky said. I nodded.
"Okay... I think Mrs. Peters already told you I'm italian. My mom thought she couldn't have babies so she adopted an American little boy and just after a few days she found out she was pregnant. So, my parents suddenly found themselves with a 5 - year - old named Connor and a newborn, aka me.
I don't remember much from my childhood, but I think it was normal. When I was like 3 or 4 my parents had another baby, another girl. We were like a regular happy family, until my sister turned 5 or so.
Then, my mom left us and our dad started treating me not-so-well to cope up with the loss, I guess.
He would hit me for no reason and, on the contrary, would spoil my sister. Connor tried to help me, like trying to stop my dad but he always ended up being beaten, too.
Connor was always there for me and we were really close.
As I turned 12, Connor was 17, which meant he was legal in the US. Our dad's abuse wouldn't stop so he decided there was only one choice: running away. At first he didn't want to take me, because I was still in school and everything but on the other hand, it was dangerous for me to stay there. So we just ran away. Our dad never even looked for us." I shed a tear "Somehow we made it to LA thanks to a friend of his and turns out he can't adopt me even though he's legal. So, they put him somewhere with other "problematic" kids and they put me in the orphanage.
I've never seen him since. And I miss him, I fucking miss him" tears were now flowing across my cheeks and I was sobbing uncontrollably. I could see the guys had glossy eyes too and Riker, which was the closest to me, pulled me into a hug.
I cuddled against his chest for a while and then excused myself and went back to my room.
