Ryland threw himself in the shower, and the others just got ready to go to sleep. I was eager to know when the famous surprise would be coming, so I pulled Riker in my room and made him sit down.
"Do you need to tell me something?" I asked smirking.
"Nah, not really"
"Aw come on! Michael told me there's a surprise coming"
"That's true, it's a surprise"
"But when is it coming??"
"I don't know" he replied grinning.
"Pleaseee"
"Fine. Tomorrow." He gave in.
That only made me more excited.
"Can you give me any hint?"
"Depends"
"Come onnn"
"Alright. You'll like it. A lot."
"That's not really helpful, you know?" "That's all I can tell" he said raising his hands, smiling. He left wishing me a good night, and closed my door.
I slowly put my pj on and got ready to go to sleep.
For the next hour or so, I laid in my bed, hands resting on my belly, thinking about what my surprise could be. It couldn't be a new guitar (I already got one), nor new clothes (I wouldn't call that a surprise). Maybe they were bringing me somewhere interesting, like an amusement park or we were going on a trip.
I also had to take into consideration that Michael was involved, probably to help Riker.
I was now sure that Michael and him didn't only talk about Cassidy, the day after the boys came back from tour.
They couldn't be organising a party because there was one already planned in three days.
Every single theory I made didn't make sense because of small details which made it impossible to be happening.
I was too excited to sleep, but I soon got tired of trying to guess.
Connor used to surprise me everytime he got the chance: showing up at a school play I knew my dad wouldn't attend, bringing me gifts from his trips with his friends, trying to bake a cake on my birthday...
The upcoming surprise made me feel the exact mixture of anxiety and happiness I experienced when my brother came home smirking hiding his hands behind his back, about to give me a present.
It was a really nice feeling, indeed, but I couldn't help but being a bit doubtful about what was coming the following day. I had always had a weird relationship with surprises: not knowing what was going on made me nervous, even though Riker had ensured me I would like it.
I decided to go downstairs and drink a glass of water, which maybe could help me finding some sleep.
Even at that late time in the middle of the night, someone was in the kitchen. Giving a closer look, it was Rocky.
He greeted me and I soon found out he couldn't sleep either.
"Are you kidding me? You can't sleep? You're the one who can fall asleep literally everywhere" I giggled.
"I know right! This is all so new to me" he sighed over-dramatically.
I poured myself some water keeping a giggle.
"Do you know what happens tomorrow?" I asked.
"What?"
"Riker told me there's a surprise"
"Oh I know what it is. 'S gonna be great." he smiled.
"I hope so. You're all making a big deal out of it" I admitted.
"Trust me, Hailie, it's worth waiting. Don't beat yourself on trying to guess"
I nodded slowly, determined in doing as said and decided on finally get some rest from thinking.
"Alright, then see ya tomorrow" he said going up to his room.
"Goodnight"
"Night" he said opening carefully the door not to wake Riker up.
I went in my room and finally fell into a deep slumber.
Tomorrow is gonna be another day, where I could find out what my surprise was.
I hoped it would be good enough to keep my mind off Connor for a bit, because lately I found myself thinking about him way more than usual.
