Days passed and my birthday finally came.
I don't expect my new family to celebrate it, mostly because I never mentioned it in front of them. However, they must've read my birth date on the adoption paper or whatever, so they might remember.
I spent the whole morning trying to get any hint about my siblings remembering what day it was: nobody seemed to have a clue.
I was a tiny bit disappointed, but after all it was my fault so I didn't get mad or anything. I should have mentioned it before and now I couldn't just go up to them like 'Oh by the way today's my birthday' because they'd have felt guilty and awkward for not knowing/remembering. I wasn't going to tell them.
"What day is it today, guys?" asked Mark busy working as always, while I was setting up the table for lunch with Stormie.
"August 15th, dad!" Yelled Riker from the couch.
"Alright, thanks" Mark yelled back.
Riker knew what day it was, but apparently he didn't pay attention to my birth date when he signed to adopt me, otherwise he would be all over the place celebrating the glorious event that was my birth exactly sixteen years ago.
While having lunch, I tended to zone out a little, but no one seemed to notice.
They were talking about the upcoming tour and they said in the livestream that I would go with them.
Travelling the world with a band is every fangirl's dream and I was lucky enough to be able to see my wish granted.
Before I knew it, lunch was over and everyone decided to watch a movie, as always.
I think that movie are the best way to relax, because you can either pay attention to what actually happens or zone out without anyone noticing.
And of course I did the second one, thinking about what being sixteen meant.
It is a pretty big deal, because it means you can get your driver's licence and stuff, and I couldn't wait.
Growing up in Italy, where you get your licence only at 18, had made me look forward to this age even more than an American would probably do.

That afternoon R5 practised and I stayed in my room listening to music for about half an hour before falling asleep.
I was woken up by Rydel.
"Hailie dinner's ready"
Did I really sleep that long??
We made our way to the stairs and when I pushed the door accessing the kitchen, I saw it was all dark.
I didn't even have time to turn around or to say anything when everything suddenly lit up.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY"
I jumped back and saw who was there: R5 and 5sos, of course, but also friends of my family I had the chance to meet in the past days.
"Oh my god guys thank you!" Was all I managed to say. Talk about lame.
They had planned a surprise party and I couldn't be happier.
A few minutes later, some extra large pizzas were delivered and Ryland put on some music. I really did enjoy it and I was happy to see that everyone was having fun.
"Thanks Riker" I told him when I got to come closer to him.
"You deserve it Hailie.... did you really think we could forget your birthday?" He asked both surprised and amused.
"Wellll we technically never talked about it so" I shrugged.
There was also a really yummy chocolate cake that had been baked by Stormie and that was absolutely delicious. It had 'Hailie' written on it with Smarties and I found it adorable. Around 3am everyone was gone and we were done cleaning up the apartment.
We were tired but happy and I was still amazed by how caring this family was. Like, they organised a whole party for me!
After we had relaxed for a but in the couch Rocky exclaimed making us jump in surprise,
"Time for gifts, Hailie!"
