Our hands brushed, and I was about to pull mine away when Michael gently took it in his.
I could feel his warmth on my fingers and it gave me butterflies in my stomach and chills down my spine.
He gave me a light squeeze and looked at me as if to ask if it was okay with me. I simply returned the squeeze and smiled, and I saw him relaxing a bit.
We walked talking about random things and laughed. We had a great time, it was clear that we were confortable around each other and that only added more tension. What was going to happen between us?
"I got an idea!" He exclaimed suddenly. I gave him a questioning look.
"But it's a surprise" he smirked.
"Ugh again?". He laughed as we started walking to the car.
I literally had no clue where he was taking me, but I was puzzled so I gladly followed him.
As he drove, I did everything I could to get some hints about our destination. Every time he would smile and shake his head dorkily. Ugh.
He finally pulled out in an area I had never been before. Nearby, there was a huge hill and I guessed that that's what he wanted to show me.
"We gotta get to the top. The view is amazing". I okayed and followed him as he started making his way to the hill.
"How do you know about this hill? I mean, you're not from Los Angeles" I asked him.
"A friend once showed me". He replied.
We got to the top sooner than expected and he was right, the view was breathtaking: you could see the whole city as the sun was slowly going down. The sky seemed on fire, with pink and orange clouds.
There was complete silence, which was making the whole situation almost surreal.
We quietly sat down admiring the landscape and he instinctively wrapped an arm around my shoulder, as he did that night while camping.
We watched the sunset without saying a word, without creating an awkward silence though, it's just that words couldn't described what we were feeling.
Almost without realising, I whispered "It's beautiful". I don't know why I was whispering, I just didn't want to ruin the amazing moment we were having.
Michael's reply surprised me.
"So are you".
I was flustered and turned around to face him and I saw he was leaning in.
Finally, my first kiss couldn't be ruined. I was nervous, of course, I didn't want to do anything to ruin the moment. But as soon as our lips connected, all my worries flew away. This may sound cliché, but I really felt fireworks, it could have been the romantic location or the tension that the first missed kiss had built between us, but regardless of what you call it, it was perfect.
He gently grabbed my cheek as the kiss continued and I let my hand wander to the back of his neck.
When we pulled away we were both smiling widely. We didn't talk about it, but it was obvious we had both wanted it for long.
We stayed on the hill for a while, my head now resting on his shoulder.
My mind was still numb from the kiss and I finally felt truly happy since a long time.
Then our little peaceful world was given a shake: Michael felt his phone vibrate.
