We started walking toward the cloth and our hands brushed against each other.
It sent chills down my spine and that's when I realised that Michael and I had to be more than friends. But everything had its time, and I didn't like rushing things.
The date wasn't like one of those romantic dinners where you flirt all the time, but it was way more special.
We sat there eating and watching the waves breaking onto the shore. I have to say it wasn't unconfortable at all, we were laughing and joking with no pressure or worries.
I felt as if there was no world outside, just us and our laughs, shy smiles, the sound of the waves and the moonlight.
Time flew by and before I knew it was 10:40. As I told Michael, his eyes grew wide and I bet he was mentally cursing. It used to take a bit more than 20 minutes and I didn't want Riker to be mad.
We took away everything not really hurrying: I knew that we both wanted to stay together as long as possible.
The car ride was really nice, we were listening to music and talking quietly.
When we heard a Green Day song coming on the radio, we both instantly reached to increase the volume. Our hands touched: my stomach did a backflip. I pulled my hand away flustered and I could feel myself blushing. The cutie sitting next to me was blushing, too.
We arrived home and he stopped the car. He sat more confortably so he was facing me.
"I really enjoyed tonight, Hailie..."
"Me, too. Maybe we could go out some other time?" I asked shyly. A big smile creeped on his face
"I'd love to."
He stared at me right in the eyes, and I was lost in his gaze. He started leaning in and I did, too. My first kiss was about to come and I couldn't be more excited.
"Hey guys!" Said Riker, leaning on the doorframe.
We quickly pulled back and I could see his disappointment. God, I almost had my first kiss.
"I... Thank you for tonight Michael" I said. We both knew we were pretending to be like superficial and just saying goodbye. But in our eyes you could read a totally different conversation, you could read the disappointment for that missed kiss, the happiness for spending the evening together and the sadness of leaving. But most of all, you could see the promise of coming back.
Exiting that car was one of the most difficult things I ever did and Riker said good bye to Michael smirking.
As I entered, literally everyone jumped around surrounding me and asking how it went.
"Sooooo Hailie?" Said Riker smirking
"Are you two together?" Squealed Ross.
"Have you chosen your wedding dress yet?" joked Rocky. I playfully shoved him on the shoulder.
"Guys, we're not together and no Rocky, I still don't have any wedding dress" I giggled.
"Did you kiss?" Asked Rydel wiggling her eyebrows.
That question killed me. We almost kissed, but we didn't. Maybe he even realised that he doesn't like me after all.
"Oh my god Delly, do I look like someone who kisses on the first date?" I said over-dramatically. I was hiding my disappointment way too well.
"I do!" Laughed Ryland.
"We all know you're a slut Ryry" sassed Ross.
"First, language Ross; Second, I agree; Third, it is late and we have a writing session tomorrow " said Riker. Everyone groaned but went to sleep. Riker was obviously the leader.
As I reached the stairs to go to my room, Riker came next to me and whispered in my ear,
"I'll pretend you weren't 7 minutes late" he said laughing. I laughed and thanked him, then went to sleep.
I fell asleep not long after, only after thinking about how happy Connor would have been of he knew about my date.
