A few days after our huge fight, Riker and I were still ignoring each other. It was a really childish thing, but I was still very mad at him and he never even apologised.
I didn't tell any of the others what had happened, but I was pretty sure Riker did, because everyone now smiled sympathetically to me or didn't look confused when I avoided my oldest brother.
I spent most of the time in my room, rewatching the videos of Connor and I and playing guitar.
During one of these lazy afternoons, I received a text.

Riker: 'Meet me in the backyard? I need to apologise'

I was sincerely surprised by his text and accepted. I was going to talk to him any time soon anyway.
I took a deep breath and headed to the meeting point.
He was sat into the grass, in the shadow. I joined him.
"Hi" I said sitting down.
"Hey" he replied fidgeting nervously.
"Riker, I-"
"No no no, Hailie. Let me go first" he said hurriedly. I simply nodded and waited for him to continue.
"So, I was a douchebag. A complete jerk" he stated, "and I was having a tough day but I know it's not an excuse". I nodded in approval, because that was completely true.
He went on,
"I also know I am your legal tutor and I'm supposed to always be there for you, not upset you like I did. And I'm really sorry, I don't know what happened-" he said with his voice breaking a bit.
"It's okay, really, you were kinda right to be honest... I need to let go a bit"
"But that's up to you, I shouldn't have told you how to live your life. Can you forgive me?"
"Of course I can, Riker, and I will. But please promise you'll never say those things again because I almost believed you". He smiled sadly and then asked,
"What do you mean 'almost'?"
"Well, I found something to prove you wrong" I smiled. He was obviously confused.
"Come on, I'll show you" I said dragging him up to my room.
The videos were already there from last night, so I simply clicked on a random one.
Most of the videos were in Italian, since I was little and not that good at English, but the relationship between my brother and I was still well understandable.
I had already seen that video (Connor and I at the park feeding squirrels), so I focused on Riker's expression: he must have found it cute, because he was completely in awe. As the video finished, his expression shifted to a slightly sadder one.
"I was wrong" he simply stated. I nodded.
"C'me here". We hugged for a while and then he suggested to watch a movie (apparently that was all that the Lynches seemed to do, besides playing and being awfully loud).
We went into the living room and opened Netflix.
In that moment, Rydel came in and looked a bit confused seeing us together again.
"So you're good now?" She asked raising an eyebrow.
"Yep" we both said at the same time, then laughed.
"Good. What are you watching?"
"What about Mean Girls?" I squealed. They both agreed and the movie started playing.
A few minutes later Mark walked in holding his phone.
"Riker I got an email saying-" he stopped when he saw me.
"Saying what?" Asked the blond boy next to me.
"Nevermind" he muttered walking away.
"Uh alright?" Riker laughed.
Oh well. I started wondering about what it could possibly be, but then turned my attention back to the movie.
I had already seen that film, and at some point I found myself thinking about Michael.
He was going to be back in exactly a week and I couldn't be more excited.
After all one of my kings wasn't really lost.
