The warmth of Fire Haven was quite calming. Well, it was always this warm anyways. Fire was used to it, but today wasn't his usual work day.

He had gotten permission from his boss and Wubbox to be able to visit an old classmate–who was now the mayor of their town–to beg for something to be done about Buzzinga. Open an investigation, question her, anything!
As he approached the cornfield just ahead, he turned on the old dirt road, and began walking down the acres of corn and beans.

A fence blocked the dirt path from running immediately into the crops, and added a layer of protection from other things that roamed the haven. Just far ahead where the house pointed to the fence of crops, he could see her familiar green shape.

Mayor Barrb. Well, she prefers "Sheriff Barrb" as it didn't frame her as a city girl, but a country lady who wasn't afraid to get in the dirt to prove a point. She was determined, thoughtful, grateful, and willing to improve or help others improve. She had a perspective on life that wasn't very common in Fire Haven, that anything happened for a reason, and there's always a goddamn reason, even if we don't know why yet.

He breathed in a nervous breath, rehearsing to himself what he was going to say. "Sheriff Barrb, I know we've had difficulties in the past, and you may not listen, but I need you to hear me out just one more time if you never do again."

She was reading a book out loud to herself, or even to her crops, as she was one to treat anything in life, even plants such as trees, clouds, smoke, and everything else as if it had a soul. He could hear her voice, soft and calming as she spoke. She had her infamous bandana and boots, which she had said to have been past down to her from her late brother who had done everything to make her see the world as good, instead of evil and out to get her–which was what had consumed her mother and drove her to insanity–and inevitably–her death.

Once she heard Fire's loud, metallic and melting footsteps, she turned over, and instantly she closed her book and scowled.
"S-Sheriff Barrb, I-"

"Don't even start that trap, Flame." She stopped him with her hand, her judging and hurtful eye stabbing into his with obvious resentment.

"Look, i know we've had–"

"I'm not falling for that, Flame. Might as well turn ya' tail and run off."

"B-Barrb–"

"Not another word, ya'hear?"
Fire huffed with frustration, then pulling his arms down, and his tail drooped down.

Once Barrb knew he wouldn't speak, she put her hand down. "I hope you haven't forgotten why I don't speak to you anymore. Your bullying was the one thing that made me become this. And I would thank you, but I don't think you've changed enough to deserve that. Now if you would, please just go home, I don't wanna hear that sappy shit."

"...B-Barrb, please, i know what i did wrong, but you have to listen to me just once. Please."

Barrb didn't reply, instead turning to jump from the fence and walk away back to her porch. She did not radiate anger, frustration, or any negative emotions as she did. It was almost as if she didn't care even though he had clearly changed. His scars and bad understanding of friends were gone, and he just wanted to get something done for the better of the town.

"I-It's Buzzinga! I-I know she's new, but something about her radiates bad energy, and I feel she and/or her group was involved with many of the fires! C-Can't you just open a little investigation?"
