sometimes i wonder
what was it like
when the first thing died.
did the planet shake with the loss
of its very first miracle?
did the sky weep in misery?
when the earth held the first funeral
and life returned to which it came,
did the ground crumble from the weight?
did it fall apart in anguish?
but most of all
how did the world ever move on?
how did it manage to survive the grief
that life always gives?
how does it stand the pain?
i wonder,
does the world only go on
because it has to?
because it has no other choice?
is there really no other choice
but to live
forever grieving miracles
forever full of loss

a world full of grief
