Taehyung searched the party high and low for his best friend. He'd been wanting to give Jimin his Christmas gift for months and had painfully kept himself from giving it to him early. Now it was Christmas Eve and seven minutes to midnight. His girlfriend Jennie had finally rolled her eyes with a smile and told him he could go find Jimin to give him his present. Taehyung was overjoyed. He knew that Jimin would absolutely love the gift he got him.
Unfortunately, Jimin was nowhere to be found. He was the host of the party, and yet no one seemed to know where he'd gone to. Many people had seen him at one point or another, bouncing around and mingling with the guests. Some had seen him refilling pitchers of punch or setting out another soju bottle. Hobi had seen him rushing toward the bathroom. Yoongi had seen him sneaking into the kitchen. Jin had seen him greeting the guests who'd just arrived. Namjoon had seen him stacking gifts under the tree.
Surprisingly, no one had seen Jungkook at all. Taehyung assumed it was because Jimin was hosting the party and the two of them had recently had a fairly public fight in the dance practice studio at the label building. The two of them had been inseparable and best friends for nearly a decade, though, and Taehyung knew their arguments never lasted long. He had suspected Jungkook would eventually show up with a gift in hand and big, sad puppy dog eyes that would cause Jimin to melt and cave.
Except, he hadn't shown and it was nearly midnight. Nearly Christmas day. And Jimin was missing from the crowd of people from the label Christmas party that he hosted in his own home.
Taehyung continued his search of Jimin's penthouse in vain, until he reached Jimin's bedroom. A soft light shone under the door and Taehyung thought to himself that he'd either found Jimin or he would scold whoever it was hiding away in a place that was off limits. He flung the door open, but the sight he saw was not what he had expected.
In the candle lit room, Taehyung could clearly see the two opened presents sitting on the floor beside the bed where, to his surprise, Jungkook and Jimin were sat. Perhaps 'sat' wasn't the right word. Jimin was seated in Jungkook's lap, his plaid blazer hanging off one shoulder. Jungkook's matching plaid cardigan had been completely discarded and his arms were wrapped around Jimin's waist.
Jimin detached his lips from Jungkook's and whipped his head around to react in shock at seeing Taehyung's slack jaw and wide eyes.
"T-TaeTae! What-what are you doing in here?" Jimin stuttered out.
"Jimin? Jungkook? Are you-did you-were you...just...kissing?!" Taehyung stuttered and shouted.
"It's not what it looks like!" Jimin tried to deflect.
Jungkook's face scrunched in confused mirth. "Yes it is!" he laughed, "Jimin and I have been dating the last two years, but we've kept it a secret. We were worried about how everyone would react."
"That," Taehyung began, nodding as he started to understand, "that explains a lot. Why you're always together, the matching clothes, the fact that it was so obvious you two were in love with each other."
"O-obvious?" Jimin squeaked out. "Were we that transparent?"
"Yes," Taehyung and Jungkook said simultaneously, then laughed at Jimin's red face.
"Just so you know, we've all been rooting for you two to get together. We've even tried to push you two into romantic situations to encourage it," Taehyung smugly declared.
"For how long?" Jimin asked, rubbing his hands over his pinks cheeks.
"Ohhh, not long. Just since you two started snuggling up together every night before we debuted," Taehyung chuckled, smiling wide.
"Before we debuted?!" Jimin shrieked. "You guys have known longer than we have!"
"Pretty much. Wait...If you guys are kissing today, why did you fight yesterday?" Taehyung scratched his head, confused by the sudden switch.
Jungkook chuckled. "It was a tactic we use sometimes to throw people off our trail so that we can be extra affectionate the next day and no one is suspicious about it."
"Ah, that's actually kind of brilliant," Taehyung laughed. "I'll just leave you two alone to...finish unwrapping your Christmas presents." He wiggled his eyebrows suggestively and Jimin flushed red again.
"Oh wait! Before I go, open my gift!" Taehyung shoved his poorly wrapped present into Jimin's hands as he crawled off Jungkook's lap.
With extreme care, Jimin carefully peeled back the tape and wrapping paper to reveal a handmade picture frame with shells sloppily glued on. Inside the frame was a picture of Taehyung and Jimin during their high school days.
"Its a picture from the day we first met," Taehyung informed him, pointing to the shells, "I had your dad send me some shells from Busan, too. Then I glued them on myself. It's not that good, but-"
He was cut off by Jimin leaping up from the bed and wrapping his arms around him. Tears streamed down Jimin's cheeks as he squeezed Taehyung tightly.
"It's better than good. It's thoughtful and took so much effort and it's perfect. I love you, Taehyung," Jimin sobbed into his shoulder as Taehyung patted his back.
Jungkook cleared his throat and pouted as the two men turned to look at him. "Was it better than my gift?"
"Nope," Jimin scolded. "We're not doing that. We're not comparing two thoughtful, wonderful gifts. It's not a competition, Kookie. I can love them both."
"What did you get him?" Taehyung asked, curiously. "And honestly, what could be better or more obvious than the time you got him a whole trip to Japan for his birthday and then made a film about it? G.C.F. in Jimin, featuring Tokyo," Taehyung joked.
"I wished G.C.F was in Jimin back then," Jungkook laughed as Jimin swatted his shoulder, mortified. "I...I..."
"He got me a ring," Jimin smirked now that Jungkook was the one blushing.
"A-a-a ring?" Taehyung stuttered, eyes wide in shock.
"A promise ring," Jungkook quickly corrected Taehyung's racing imagination. "One day, Park Jimin is going to be my husband. That is my promise."
They both smiled softly at each other as their cheeks flushed pink in the candlelight. Taehyung suddenly felt like he was intruding, but he couldn't resist asking one last thing.
"Jimin?"
"Yeah?"
"What did you get Jungkook?" Taehyung quietly asked, fearing that speaking too loudly would ruin something about this moment.
"It's funny," Jimin grinned. "Jungkook and I are so alike. We really are a pretty perfect match," he giggled.
"Because I got him a ring too."
