"Jimin, are you sure this is a good idea?"
Jimin nodded, then realized his manager couldn't see him through the phone. "Yeah. Trust me. You're going to love all of them, and they're so talented. Plus, you know how talented Yoongi is and how many times you've tried to talk him into becoming a producer."
"And even he signed off on this plan?" His manager questioned hesitantly.
"Well yeah," Jimin found himself nodding again, "It was kind of his idea!"
"Alright. I'll be there in two days. See you then," his manager agreed.
"Thank you, Bang PD-nim. Have a safe flight," Jimin hung up and jumped in place before turning to Hoseok and Yoongi. "He said he'd come!"
Yoongi nodded as if he'd expected nothing less. He glanced around at the faces of his new friends until his eyes landed on his husband. Hoseok grinned wide and Yoongi gave him a big gummy smile back.
Jimin looked at each man in turn, then sighed. "Are you guys sure about this? The life of an idol is hard and exhausting. There's a reason I had to take this break. It's a nonstop job and you can't exactly ever really get away from it."
Jungkook stood and went to rub Jimin's shoulders. "This is the best way. Plus we all love music! It'll be fun if we're all together."
Taehyung came and held Jimin's hands. Recently they had become such good friends that Jungkook was often jealous of how affectionate they were. "Yeah, and besides, you won't have to do that hard, exhausting stuff alone. You'll have friends to share it with."
Swatting Taehyung's hands away and causing his brother and boyfriend to laugh, Jungkook agreed. "Yeah. You're not alone anymore."
"Technically, he was never alone," Yoongi pointed out, gesturing between himself and Hoseok.
Shaking his head, Hoseok disagreed. "No, we were there, but not in the limelight with Jimin. It's different. He was the only one under a microscope."
Yoongi huffed and Jungkook squeezed Jimin's shoulders. "Not anymore, though."
When Bang PD arrived two days later, the seven of them proposed their plan and each gave a sort of mini audition to showcase what they could do. Jimin's manager was pleasantly surprised to discover that not only could Yoongi produce music, but was a secret underground rapper. He had the same surprise waiting for him when he uncovered that Hoseok was not only a phenomenal dancer, but that he had practiced rapping with his husband, sometimes joining him in the underground rap battles.
"Is that why you'd never become an idol for me? Or a producer? Your true passion was rapping all this time?" Band PD had asked of Yoongi.
He had nodded and said simply, "I just wanted to keep rapping."
Everyone, including Jungkook, was shocked to discover Seokjin's vocal range and Taehyung's deep, sultry singing voice. In a moment of intense admiration that made Jimin feel a little jealous, Jungkook sat in awed silence, jaw dropped, as he watched Namjoon rap. Apparently he had never seen it before, despite knowing that Namjoon had tried to break into rapping and producing before.
Then it was time for Jungkook's turn. No one was prepared for what came next. He danced like a professional. His voice was angelic and had a range that was unmatched. He even kept up with Yoongi, Namjoon, and Hoseok when he was asked to try rapping. Jimin swelled with pride, and maybe a little smugness that he was his, as he watched Jungkook excel.
"Wow," Bang PD said, his back falling against the couch in Jimin's hotel suite after Jungkook's last note faded out. "That was..."
"Unbelievable," Jimin finished, stunned and grinning wide. Jungkook blushed and took a seat next to Jimin, burying his face into his neck.
Bang PD nodded, his fingers stroking his chin as if he were deep in thought. "This could definitely work. I can practically see how to market it now. But boys, I'm sure Jimin told you, this life isn't easy. Are you sure you're up for it? There's a ton of sleepless nights, fans that hassle you, paparazzi, the no dating rule," he looked pointedly at Jimin and Jungkook, "and you'll have to travel all over the world and leave your home behind. Your family behind."
The four brothers looked at each other, Taehyung finally breaking the brief silence. "Our family would be going with us, so I don't mind. And as for the rest of the stuff, I'm sure that will be annoying, but it will be worth it to do something we all love and be together."
Everyone smiled at each other and nodded. Bang PD returned their smiles softly and nodded again. "Alright then. Looks like we're going to have to think of a band name."
The next eight months were a blur. Jimin and Jungkook took solace in each other as the whirlwind of preparations for their group's debut, using Jimin's popularity as a current idol, happened all around them. Any spare second they had, they could be found lip-locked in a bathroom or closet or some other hidden place. They'd had special instruction on hiding their relationship in particular. They'd all been given the run down of hiding any future relationships, but it was especially important for the couple.
They didn't seem to mind though, as they grew closer and closer to each other as time passed on. At 11 months after their impromptu auditions in Jimin's California hotel room, they were set to debut in just under a week.
"Jungkook, you realize that I met you exactly one year ago tomorrow right?" Jimin shyly asked, holding something wrapped behind his back.
Smiling down at his boyfriend, Jungkook nodded. "Of course I realize it. It feels like a lifetime ago and just yesterday all at once. The second I saw you on that beach, it felt like my life had really began. I don't really believe in love at first sight, but I do believe in soulmates. I think some part of me recognized that day that you were mine and the more I knew you, the more I loved you."
Jimin dropped his head, smiling that same shy smile as he lifted his hands in front of him to reveal a small wrapped box. "I got this for you. Since its...sort of an anniversary."
Jungkook laughed and withdrew a small wrapped box from his pocket. They giggled and exchanged gifts, looking at each other incredulously as they stared at the contents of the boxes.
"Are you serious?" Jungkook laughed.
"I guess we really are soulmates. We even get each other the same gift," Jimin chuckled, lifting a small ring from the velvet, satin-lined box and putting it on his finger.
"Soulmates. Called it," Jungkook laughed, following Jimin's lead. "Jimin, that ring is my promise to you that one day I'll be your husband and one day we'll be out as a couple, no matter what anyone thinks."
"I can't wait," Jimin smiled up at his future husband, tip-toeing up to give him a kiss.
All Jimin had wanted was to not feel so alone and to finally be able to be himself. With Jungkook at his side and his newfound friends behind him, he finally felt a freedom and a joy he'd never felt in his whole life. Suddenly the lights weren't so bright and the cruel comments weren't so harsh. He could handle the paparazzi and the people trying to bring him down simply because he'd had success as long as they were with him. With the other six, Jimin finally felt whole.
