Jungkook

Jungkook stared at his phone in disbelief.  The screenshot staring up at him had his hands shaking and tears springing to his eyes.  It couldn't be true.  After the last year together, it just couldn't be true.

He wanted to scream, and cry, and maybe break some of his stuff, but instead, Jungkook calmly packed all of his boyfriend's belongings into boxes and his suitcases.  When Kim Namjoon came back to see him again, he'd find there was no place in Jungkook's apartment or his heart for him.

As for this Park Jimin, he'd just have to meet with him to find out who this man thought he was.

Jimin

Sobbing into his best friend's shoulder, Jimin howled in rage over the deception Kim Taehyung had just shown him.  The man he'd been dating the last five months, Kim Namjoon, was Taehyung's cousin.  He had only recently discussed his new relationship with his best friend.

Unfortunately, that was when Kim Taehyung informed him of the man's year long relationship with Taehyung's other friend, Jeon Jungkook.  Jimin had never met Jungkook, but he was devastated to discover that Kim Namjoon had cheated on him with Jimin.

He knew he had to meet with Jungkook and make this right.  He hadn't known Namjoon was in a relationship, but Jimin still didn't feel good about being the other man.

Taehyung had set up the meeting.  As the best friend of both men, he'd felt compelled to help both of them after what his cousin had done to them.

Jungkook sat anxiously fiddling with the strings of his hoodie, trying his hardest to hold back the sobs building up in his throat.  A tinkling at the door of the designated cafe had his head whipping up as he stood to attention.

The breath felt like it'd been punched out of him and he instantly knew why Namjoon had been tempted to cheat on him with this gorgeous man.

No, Jungkook, he told himself.  Don't go soft on him just because he's pretty.  Your boyfriend cheated on you with him.

The other side of him, though, argued, Just hear him out before you judge.

The man he presumed to be Park Jimin met his eyes and his jaw dropped.  His eyes widened and took in every inch of him until Jungkook felt himself blush and grow self conscious.

Wow, Jimin thought, feeling guilty, though he'd not actually done anything wrong.  I can see why Jungkook was Namjoon's original choice.

"Jungkook?" he asked holding out his hand.

He nodded and accepted his hand, shaking it until they were just standing over a table holding hands.  Jungkook cleared his throat, dropping Jimin's hand and gesturing for him to sit down.  As they did, Jimin bit his plump lip trying not to blush.

"So," Jungkook began, lacing his fingers together in front of him on the table.  "My boyfriend cheated on me with you.  Did you know?"

"That he was in a relationship?" Jimin asked, feeling somewhat annoyed that this man who didn't know him at all had already made such negative assumptions about him.

He growled out, "No.  No, I didn't know.  And honestly, I was pretty crushed when I found out," more softly he said, "I can't believe he did this to me."

Jimin's bottom lip quivered and tears welled in his eyes.  Jungkook's heartstrings tugged in his chest and he tried to ignore the uncomfortable way his stomach was starting to feel.  Jungkook didn't want to feel sorry for Jimin, but he'd been played just as much as Jungkook had.  It made it hard for him to maintain his resolve to hate this beautiful man.

He sighed.  "Okay.  I just had to check, you know?  It hurt me pretty badly too to find out my boyfriend of the last year had spend almost half that time dating someone else.  Makes you wonder what's wrong with you, ya know?"

Almost unconsciously, Jimin grabbed his hands and smiled sympathetically at Jungkook.  He nodded and squeezed.  "I know exactly what you mean, but from what Taehyung told me and from what I can see for myself, it doesn't seem like there's anything wrong with you.  The person who has something wrong with them is Kim Namjoon."

Jimin seemed to spit out their mutual former lover's name as if the taste of it in his mouth was unbearable.  Jungkook chuckled, unable to stop himself from squeezing Jimin's hands back.  He couldn't blame him anymore.  He couldn't hate him.  In fact, he seemed to find himself rather charmed by the man.  He could see how easily it would've been to fall for Park Jimin.

Months passed, both men having severed all ties with Kim Namjoon, but becoming good friends themselves.  Their mutual best friend, Kim Taehyung, was always smirking knowingly between the two, though neither ever saw it or understood what he meant by it.

Jungkook and Jimin both felt romantic feelings growing, but both were too afraid to say anything.  The way they'd met had been peculiar at best, and neither knew if the other would find it odd to start a relationship after such a start.

It wasn't long, though, before Jungkook could contain himself no longer.  After six months of friendship, Jungkook took Jimin on a night sailing tour.  They had discovered throughout their friendship that they were both from Busan and both loved being at the beach.  Jimin grinned wide at the wind and the sea and the stars twinkling overhead.

He had just been thinking about how lovely it would be to kiss Jungkook when his friend did precisely that.  When Jungkook pulled away, even in the glowing light of the lanterns, Jimin could see how deeply he blushed and the shake of his hands.  Jungkook wouldn't meet his eyes.

To his surprise, Jimin lifted his chin and kissed him again.

They began dating after that, much to their best friend's delight.  It wasn't until Taehyung's birthday, one year into their new relationship, that they ran into Kim Namjoon at their best friend's birthday party.

Taehyung had forgotten to mention that he'd be there as he had honestly forgotten both of them had dated his cousin.

Namjoon saw the two men he'd once betrayed holding hands, kissing, and laughing together and felt nothing but bitterness.  He stormed up to them when they were alone.

"Oh, look.  It's my two whores.  Couldn't find anyone but each other, huh?" Namjoon interjected himself into their soft-spoken conversation venomously.

They both looked at him as if he were a pitiable creature.  It turned Namjoon's stomach to lead.

"Actually," Jimin said, smiling sweetly up at Jungkook and squeezing the hand he had draped over his shoulder.  "We just figured out why you wanted us both.  He's incredible.  You?  Not so much."

Jungkook chuckled, leaning down to kiss Jimin's glossy lips.  "And Jimin?  I can see why you couldn't resist him.  He's an actual angel.  I'm glad you cheated on me with him.  Meeting him was the best thing that ever happened to me," he glanced up at the man who once held his heart.  "And you were the worst."

They walked away, hand in hand, leaving Namjoon crestfallen and resentful of the love he could have had.

"Well, that happened," Jimin giggled.  "Did you mean what you said?  About me being the best thing that ever happened to you?"

Jungkook planted a kiss on Jimin's temple.  "Every word, my angel."
