Coffee

Jungkook fidgeted with his thumbs nervously.  Through the window of his favorite coffee shop he could see the dark haired boy smiling so wide his eyes were nearly closed buzzing around and talking with customers.  The first time he'd seen that smile, he'd known.  He'd known that there was no way he'd ever be able to walk away from it.

Gathering up his courage, he pushed open the door.  Jungkook had come here every day for the last month and today would be no exception.  What he hoped would be different, though, was that he'd leave through that same door with the phone number of the sweet barista he'd worked so hard to be brave enough to ask out.

"Hi, Jungkook!  You're a little later than usual today.  Get held up?" the boy asked with an extra wide smile for him.

Jungkook gulped and could only nod as his palms began to sweat.  He put his shaking hands on the counter, clenching and un-clenching them as he tried to find his voice.

"You want the usual?"

Again, Jungkook could only nod.  Get it together, Kook! he mentally scolded himself.

"Okay.  I'll make it extra special today," he grinned with a wink.

"Thank you, Jimin," Jungkook finally choked out, smiling back with pride at finally being able to speak.

The co-owner of the shop sidled over while Jimin went off to make his drink.  "So, you ever going to have the balls to ask him out or are you just going to stare at him with longing forever and not do anything about it?"

Jungkook coughed harshly and looked up at the man with wide eyes.  "Taehyung, shut up!  He'll hear you!"

Taehyung glanced over at his best friend as he mixed some sugar into Jungkook's cup and rolled his eyes.  "I hope he does.  Then maybe I can finally be rid of all these lovesick googly eyes you two keep making at each other."

He sighed and walked away, but not before rolling his eyes at Jungkook too.  What he'd said did give Jungkook a little boost of courage that maybe he wasn't alone in feeling this way.  Today would be different.  Today was definitely the day he asks Jimin out.  He wasn't going to wait a moment more.  He was certain of it.

When Jimin placed his coffee down in front of him with that innocent smile, however, his throat went dry and the words fell from his head.  Jungkook internally punched himself at another wasted opportunity.

He sighed and picked up his coffee.  On it, he saw his name with a little heart next to it like always.  Jimin always drew different little icons next to everyone's name.  Jungkook sat down and sipped the sweet drink.  Jimin always knew to put in a little extra sugar because Jungkook didn't like bitter coffee.  In truth, Jungkook didn't like coffee at all

The only reason he'd ever walked into the shop in the first place was that he'd caught a glimpse of Jimin through the window and the next thing he knew he was ordering something bitter and atrocious.  Jimin had giggled a heavenly sound and added sweetener to his drink and had made it extra sweet for him ever since.  Jungkook often suspected that he really just gave him hot chocolate after that first day.

Jungkook was about to throw away his trash and leave when he caught a glimpse of some writing on the opposite side of the paper cup.  It read:

Jungkookie, here's my number (XXX) XXX-XXXX.  Use it to finally ask me out.  I've been waiting all this time and I couldn't wait any more. ;)

His brain went haywire as he read and reread and reread one more time.  The words didn't seem to make sense, but when he glanced up to find Jimin, the smirk on his face confirmed it all.  Jungkook couldn't see straight for a moment as his feet carried him to the counter.  He sat down the paper cup on the granite a little more harshly than he meant to.

"Did you write this?"

Jimin's smile faltered as nervousness inked it's way into his features.  He nodded and lowered his head.

Jungkook reacted before his brain caught up.  He reached out a hand and gripped Jimin's chin, drawing his face up and then crushed his lips against those plump, pink daydreams he'd admired so many times.  Jimin made a squeaking noise, then melted into the kiss, gripping Jungkook's shoulders tightly.

From the other end of the counter, Taehyung slowly clapped his hands and shouted, "Well, it's about damn time."

Jungkook and Jimin broke apart, blushing and embarrassed.  Jungkook picked up his paper cup and smiled bashfully at Jimin.

"I'll...I'll call you tonight."

Jimin nodded, smiling back with pink cheeks.  "I look forward to it."

Jungkook glanced around the shop as he walked out, holding that empty paper cup like it was his most prized and precious possession, face bright red.

When he was finally close enough to his work building that he figured no one would still be watching, he smiled down at the cup in his hands, rereading the words one more time.

Today really was different after all.

A/N: I haven't written on these short stories in a while because I've been working on something BIG!  Some of the readers have been really encouraging about me following my dreams to become a real writer, so I've been working on this idea I had for a real novel.  Fingers crossed I can write it well and have someone want it.  BUT, I felt bad not writing my fanfic too, so I wrote out this little cutesy short for your reading pleasure.

Thank you to the Lovely ARMY's that have been so supportive of the things I've written AND of me following my passions.  :) <3 I love you all!
