"You were right, you know.  You almost always are."

"Are you happier?  I just...I want you to be happy."

Jungkook laughed, the sound a bit sour even to his own ears.  "Of course I'm not happy, Jimin.  Just because I understand doesn't mean I like it.  I miss you.  I don't want this.  I never wanted it."

Jimin nodded.  "But you do agree it was the right thing to do?"

Sighing, Jungkook nodded.  "Yeah.  It was.  We've both grown a lot.  I think we needed this time to really find ourselves.  To find out who we are without each other because there's not been a time since we were teenagers that we weren't together in some way.  Either as friends, bandmates, lovers, boyfriends, or engaged.  I think it's good we had the time to discover ourselves."

For the first time in a while, Jungkook really looked at Jimin.  "You seem stronger.  More sure of yourself."

Jimin blushed.  "Thank you.  I...I am.  You look wiser yourself," he replied with a chuckle.

"I'm growing up," Jungkook joked with a laugh.  His sweet smile suddenly fell and his expression became serious.  "Jimin.  I'm not ready to give up on you.  To give up on us.  I think...we should try again."

Jimin's eyes searched Jungkook's, seeing nothing but sincerity and hope inside them.  His blush deepened as he smiled shyly, dropping his head.  Taehyung was right again, he thought.  He dug his hand inside his bag and pulled out a worn looking notepad.  Jimin opened it up on the coffee table and pulled Jungkook down to the floor with him.

"Let's write about it.  A song maybe.  If our lyrics match up...we give it another try.  We're not the same people who broke up months ago.  We've both changed.  For the better, I think," Jimin met Jungkook's gaze with tears welling in his eyes.  "Jungkook...I'm not ready to give up on us either."

Jungkook's cheeks became wet within an instant as he grinned that famous bunny grin that Jimin loved so much.  Before he could even speak, Jimin was scooped into his ex-fiance's arms, pressed tightly against his chest.

When he was finally released, Jungkook ran his fingers over the blank page of Jimin's notebook.  "So a song?  Guess we better get to writing, yes?"

"Happy birthday, Jimin-ah.  But why are you doing this in his studio?"

"What?"

"What is this?"

Hobi took in the stunned expression on Jungkook's face and the shy, slightly panicked expression on Jimin's with joy soaring in his heart and a bright smile on his face.  He gave Jimin a hug and nuzzled into his neck, knowing how much pain and struggle he'd been through getting over his mental health issues and being without Jungkook.  Seeing them together again like this made him feel like there might be hope after all.

A/N: I originally made a mistake about the dates, but I fixed that.  I also added an extra chapter to this one, but I think it fit and it's cute and it's finished.  Jimin mentioned that he began writing his album during covid and because of all the pressure of not being able to perform and having to re-evaluate himself.  Around this time, there was also an odd live in 2021 for Jimin's birthday that kinda seemed like maybe Hobi knew some things we didn't.  Like maybe there was a fight or some sort of something that army wasn't let in on between Jikook.  We can't be for sure, but this fictional account was just a way for me to imagine what might have gone on.

Anyway, that's it for this mini-series short stories.  Hope you liked them, Lovely Armies.
