Su Ning was just leaving the house where three children with persistent coughs were staying. What was supposed to be something quick, about the time it took to burn an incense stick, took more than a shi, as several people, aware of his presence, sought him out for consultation at the same family's house. The attentive mother kindly provided the small room for the doctor to see patients without an appointment.
Only after attending to everyone, Su Ning said a kind goodbye to the family and headed towards the Orchid House, towards the end of the afternoon. However, he and An Shu were attracted by the sounds of commotion in the streets. Some yao ran away through the alleys, while someone barked orders to capture them. Su Ning suddenly stopped upon hearing the changed voices.
An Shu, who was following closely behind him, raised his eyebrows in concern. "What is this commotion?" He looked at his master. His expression was as cold as a frozen lake. However, he replied softly: "Trouble." And he headed towards the origin of the voices very sure of himself. A yao was desperately trying to escape, but it seemed attached to some sort of spiritual thread.
With a gesture of Su Ning's hand, this thread that looked as strong as iron was cut in one fell swoop and the trapped yao even stumbled and fell forward with the force he was exerting to run. He soon got up and ran as fast as he could away from there.
"Who made this?" One of the voices said irritably. This technique could not be undone so easily!"It must be a very powerful yao to cut a spiritual cord. Be careful!" A second voice warned the other. Without further ado, Su Ning stepped out of the shadows and stared at the group of cultivators with annoyance. An Shu came right behind him.
"Oh! It must be this snake!" One of the cultivators grumbled. "It looks really strong!" He ignored the doctor. He had already encountered several humans and they all showed up just to complain about the noise and disturbance they were causing."I didn't do anything! What do you think you're doing here?" An Shu was irritated by the finger that was pointed at him.
"Try again! Let's see if he can dodge a direct attack!" The other cultivator encouraged him to attack him. In the space of a breath, the cultivator threw another spiritual thread towards An Shu, another thread that Su Ning severed before he reached his target with just a swipe of his hand."Ah, it wasn't the snake... Who are you?" The cultivator asked in surprise.
"First of all, you are using the technique wrongly. You don't launch yourself using direct meridian energy. If it is grabbed, your qi will be drained. Who taught you like that?" He asked with a slight frown on his forehead. The two men retreated at this display of knowledge but someone stepped forward, pushing them aside."Braiding the thread from the meridian gives it more strength. Only an incompetent would let the thread get caught, qianbei." The cultivator said with conviction, analyzing his opponent from head to toe. An Shu detested him the first time he saw him, and his eyes narrowed like two thin lines.
"I'm no longer part of the Sect, Master Xun. You can just call me Su Ning." The doctor responded coldly.Xun Dui smiled. "Oh! At least you remember that, going around teaching and cutting spiritual cords..."
"The Sect does not prohibit rogue cultivators. Furthermore, if they had any reason to prevent me from cultivating, they would have removed my core. Now, the law of this province prohibits attacks, fights, or any type of unreasonable rowdiness on the streets."
"For no reason? Do you know that HUMAN women were murdered by yao in this province and nothing was done? We are here to arrest and punish this murderer!""It seems that the daoyou is a little late. The killer was arrested earlier today. One of the women survived and will recognize him in the yamen tomorrow. And he is a human, with some level of cultivation as well." Su Ning looked at him seriously, raising his eyebrows even more.
Xun Dui gave a crooked smile. "You dare insinuate something? I wouldn't be surprised if this human is yet another victim planted to hide the real culprit.""I'm not insinuating anything." Su Ning laughed bitterly. "But if you came here to investigate this, it would be better to go to the yamen first and find out the details before going around hunting yao indiscriminately."
"Hunf! I don't need any reason to see that these yao were just now deceiving humans, charging more than they should for their merchandise. Is it wrong to correct a malevolent act?""So the problem is no longer homicides? In any case, if that was the case, it would be recommended that you report it to the authorities in the same way."
Xun Dui gritted his teeth. "That's enough! This has nothing to do with you."
Su Ning did not move. An Shu has never seen him so discourteous to someone like this before. Did they know each other from the Sect? Apparently they didn't get along well at all."For the sake of otherwise." Su Ning replied, with a dangerous gleam in his eyes. "I will not allow cultivators to go around tarnishing the Sect's name by committing injustices. I believe you still respect the human Emperor's decree?"
Xun Dui frowned. "As if we could go against this agreement!"
"I'm glad you're still aware of this. So, do you want me to show you where the yamen is?""I'm not going anywhere with a dirty traitor like you! Yao lover!"
"Hey! TAKE IT BACK! THE DR DOESN'T DESERVE TO HEAR THAT!" An Shu exploded from behind his master. Both yao and humans peered from their businesses and windows, apprehensive about this heated discussion. Xun Dui extended his hand towards him, firing a concentrated beam of energy at An Shu. Su Ning blocked the attack again by crossing his arms in front of his chest."Ah! Now will you show your claws Su Ning?"
"What are you talking about? An Shu is my friend and assistant. I just defended him." Su Ning shrugged, lowering his hands peacefully.
"Well, I'm going to take off your mask by force!" Xun Dui shouted angrily and summoned his sword. However, when he did this, Dr. Su, who was scratching his temple thoughtfully, nodded to himself as if coming to a conclusion. He made a quick hand movement, raising one hand while lowering the other under his front. The group of cultivators who had met with the first two troublemakers upon hearing their tempers flare and their leader Xun Dui were surrounded by a spectral barrier that rose to the sky, without being able to see its end. Xun Dui frowned as he saw that he could not see the end of the barrier whose seven colors swayed gently in front of him but which in contact with his hand seemed solid like a mountain.
"What does that mean???"
"I wanted to see how much the Sect has evolved in recent years." Su Ning said in a lower tone of voice than he usually used. "If you can get out by the end of monkey hour (by 5 p.m.), I'll get out of your way and let you roam freely." He smiled lightly, his gaze was so cold that it felt like a frozen sea. An Shu shivered slightly. His master had many faces, but he preferred not to see this so often.Author's Note
😅 Su Ning can be very evil when he wants to be. Please go ahead and discipline these idiots.
