"Ah, is that the court you're following, Emperor?" Fei Mou drank the delicately flavored fruit wine. It shone mischievously, combined with the sweetness of the beauty that served it. "And she's also the one who came to introduce herself, right? Did you already know her before?"
"Um, yes. Her name is Su Jie." The Emperor responded in disgust.

Fei Mou looked again at the courtesans helping to serve the table and muttered in a low voice to the dragon. "You have good taste."
Qiang Yong gulped down his wine irritably. Why on earth did this person have to be so attractive???
Fei Mou complimented Ren Loo and her companion. "Are you the doctor's assistant who was called? Why didn't he come too?"

"The doctor had to be away due to a call." An Shu quickly responded, making up an excuse.
"What a shame! I would like to ask him for an evaluation if I could, I've been feeling really uncomfortable knee pain."
For the first time, Su Ning looked at the mayor with his medical curiosity, ready to question him, but An Shu came to his rescue. "As soon as he comes back I'll let you know."

Su Ning sighed in relief. Seeing him so uneasy about not being able to attend an immediate appointment made Qiang Yong smile, relaxing a little. He was still the same person and from the looks of it nothing would ever change him. A doctor with body and soul, down to the last strand of hair.

Furthermore, as Qiang Yong's companion, Su Ning was devoting herself to him to the fullest. Although he would occasionally wait on a table due to the overcrowding, he was always returning to the emperor's side, always filling a glass of wine, offering treats and snacks or just sitting next to him to keep him company and talk.

In other words, a perfect hostess. Qiang Yong had not yet had the opportunity to talk about casual topics with Su Ning but the doctor, who previously only seemed to understand cultivation and medicine, came out very well.
Apparently he wasn't an isolated hermit on a mountain far from everything. On the contrary, he was well aware of the changing world, to the surprise of even An Shu. Fei Mou was rightly complaining about the Cultivation Sect and the snake raised his eyebrows a little when he saw his master so calm about it.

"Those damn humans and I'm causing problems here on the edge of the province! The reason I'm keeping the whole homicide case hidden is because I'm afraid they'll want to intervene here!"

"Even if they wanted to, they couldn't interfere without the emperor's permission. The Sect only has power to act in provinces that are mostly occupied by humans." Su Ning gasped softly. The weasel intrigued him. Did this girl even have any authority to say that?

It wasn't enough to just be beautiful, kind... was she also smart? As expected of the girl who caught Qiang Yong's attention!
"It's true. However, since the victims were all human, the cultivators could claim that human lives were harmed in their self-defense. And then it would be impossible to regain the balance of the city..."

For a moment Su Ning's expression turned gloomy. She said in a low voice, "As long as Ce Rang is the leader of the Sect, it will be difficult to disperse the enmity between yao and cultivators..."
The Emperor looked back, he didn't think that Su Ning still cared about this kind of matter. It helped alleviate this concern.

"There's nothing to worry about. The Sect has been loyal to the emperor for over a hundred years, they wouldn't dare to challenge him." However, the doctor did not seem confirmed.
"A tiger, even if tamed, remains a tiger and nothing stops it from biting the hand that fed it." He said bitterly and Fei Mou supported vehemently, already a little drunk.

"This beauty is human, she knows what she's talking about."
Qiang Yong had the urge to strangle him, but held him back. Who are you calling beauty???
Ren Loo also listened interestedly to the discussion. In fact, Su Ning knew better than anyone who the person she was talking about was. She had the same idea as her brother.

The quiet mountain doctor was actually still active behind the scenes, watching the Sect's steps. Was it at the behest of the emperor or by his own will?
It was already past the dog's hour and soon Su Ning would have to go out to introduce himself. He saw Qiang Yong slightly upset when he was preparing to leave.

"What's bothering you?" He spoke discreetly. The Emperor was a little drunk and was tracing the mouth of the glass with his finger, so he replied without thinking: "It's irritating to think that you're going to dance to try to get the murderer's attention."
Su Ning was smiling and even in continuous shock like this. What did the dragon mean by that??

He doesn't understand. Thinking that he was worrying too much, he thought of playing a game to relax and to continue showing off this courtesan act. He moved and whispered lowly close to his ear from the emperor: "That's right. I'll dance just for you then."

Qiang Yong trembled from head to toe. What was this? A provocation? Was the doctor suspicious of his feelings? He turned around but Su Ning had already disappeared between the stage curtains. The emperor's cheeks were slightly flushed and Ren Loo whispered in his ear. "What did he say that made you like this? Isn't the doctor exaggerating his role as a courtesan or did he really get into character?"

Qiang Yong didn't respond, drinking some water. No more wine tonight!
Suddenly the lights dimmed slowly, to emphasize the stage lighting and the girls playing instruments fell silent, leaving only the anxious buzz of the guests at the table.
Qiang Yong's head repeated the phrase doctor over and over again. I'll dance just for you then.

He must have been joking, but he would only know for sure after seeing the performance. The Emperor turned the cup in his hands, admiring its crystallinity. This person was like a crystal, which could be easily shattered and broken into pieces. Humans are fragile, he thought and then turned to his sister, who was super excited about the start of the main event.

"Ren Loo,  you said you had gotten a pearl capable of curing any illness or injury?"
"As long as there is still a breath of life left, it will take effect, I guarantee that!" The dragon replied proudly.
"I will pay for her." Qiang Yong said, he didn't know if this assassin was present and if he posed any risk to Su Ning. Either way, he wasn't going to be negligent.

"You don't have to pay, I'll give it to you." Madame Ren took her qiankun bag from her and rummaging through it, she took out a small, smooth, pink sphere and handed it to her brother. She winked, smiling. "I hope you never actually have to use it."
Qiang Yong held the pearl in his palm. It was cold as ice, so he kept it with him.

At that moment, the sound of drums and cymbals began the performance, starting to play, first slowly, then a little faster. One of the girls began to play the kite softly and the stage gradually lit up. Su Ning had his back turned, holding a fan behind him. He slowly turned around and his bright eyes met Qiang Yong's. He wasn't kidding.

I think Su Ning is starting to like Qiang Yong. Isn't he trying too hard to please you? 😏
