The german police department - PART II
After conducting the necessary investigations, Ulrich's team led the American agents to their camp. The forest, shrouded in the darkness of the night, exuded a foreboding aura; the air grew heavier, and its spectral silence conveyed a constant sense of hostility. However, the presence of more than twenty officers provided a sense of security, helping them face the situation with more courage. The camp, known as GSG-9, was situated in a more remote area of the town, deep in what had been dubbed "the forest of doom." Armed and well-protected officers secured the perimeter of their location. The reassuring presence of their new colleagues was a comfort, although the deep woods still whispered of lurking dangers.
Ulrich and Chris led the American agents, accompanied by one of the female officers from their team. She was a young woman with a freckled face, attractive, with brown hair pulled back into a braid. Positioned next to a stretcher and medical supplies, she was tending to the wounded officers.
The team that had invaded the town handed over samples of dark blood to her, asking her to place them on her work table. Liz noticed Bernard, despite his injury, was staring at the woman. She could tell when someone was attracted to someone else, but she knew her friend well enough to understand that he would never jeopardize his relationship with his wife over it. The moment was interrupted by Ulrich, who took the lead in making introductions.
"Hi, Steffanie," Ulrich said to the agent with a serious expression. She responded immediately to his call.
"Ich hoffe, du hast nicht zu viel zu tun, denn unser Freund hier könnte deine Hilfe brauchen" (I hope you don't have too much to do, because our friend here might need your help).
Bernard, despite not understanding a word of German, grasped that the captain was asking if she could assist him. She responded with a slight smile, gesturing for him to lie down on the stretcher with a kind look. Bernard, puzzled, followed her instructions. The German agent checked her medical kit, then approached them with some wet cloths and a bottle of alcohol.
Steffi removed the bandage Ulrich had applied and examined the wolf bite marks that had torn through much of Bernard's skin. Liz looked at the wound in shock, covering her mouth in disbelief.
"Meine Güte, was ist denn hier passiert?" (For God's sake, what happened here?) Steffi exclaimed in surprise at the sight of Bernard's arm.
Chris summarized the situation for her. Liz found it uncomfortable when the officers spoke German in her presence, but she accepted it as part of being in a foreign country. Steffi began to clean the wound with a cloth, while Bernard gritted his teeth and squeezed his eyes shut to keep from crying out.
"Tut es weh, wenn ich hier drücke" Steffi asked, applying pressure elsewhere. She hadn't realized Bernard didn't understand her until she saw his confused expression. "Oh, excuse me, I forgot you don't understand German," she said with a calm demeanor. "I was asking if it hurts when I put pressure here."
