The return of the giant in black

Terror gripped the agents; each step of the man in black felt like a dagger piercing their souls. Liz signaled to the others to retreat to the top, realizing how slim their chances were of defeating this abominable creature.

"No... no way..." Liz muttered under her breath. "How the hell did he find me now?"

"He's coming for me," Anika whimpered, backing away from the staircase. "I told you, something big is coming for me."

Liz frantically looked for a way to get Anika out of the cabin, but every possible escape route seemed hopelessly blocked. Bernard was doing his best to keep from losing his nerve; his hands began to tremble, struggling to keep his rifle steady.

"What are we gonna do now?" Bernard moaned, aiming his weapon at the stairs as the heavy, earth-shaking footsteps reverberated through the cabin like the sound of doom itself.

"Everyone, get in position!" Nick barked harshly from behind, moving towards the frame of one of the three rooms. "We can't take him head-on. We need to find a way to lure him out of here and make a run for it." He turned to Liz before slipping into the shadows of the room. "You'll need to buy time to get the girl out. Don't let him see you with her."

Bernard swallowed hard, whispering silent prayers as he clutched his rifle. He hadn't expected such an encounter just hours after the apocalyptic chase at the courthouse. He took position behind one of the doorframes, as did Liz, both trying to shield Anika from view. In the midst of their rising panic, there was no time to come up with a better strategy. They knew Holzmann's executioner would enter one of the rooms first. Whoever faced him would have to fight for their life while the others made a break for it.

The thunderous footsteps made it feel like it was all coming to an end. Liz's mind was already drifting back to the best moments of her life, but she was resolute: they were not going to take the girl.

The agents drew their guns, waiting for the cruel, inquisitorial voice to shatter the silence of the hallway. The floorboards groaned beneath the executioner's steel-toed boots, and his breathing echoed like chilling snores. Anika shuddered softly, as if she sensed the evil aura growing stronger with each step he took. No one spoke or even dared to move. Liz felt a knot tighten in her stomach, her thoughts scrambling for an escape plan.

Holzmann's executioner was already advancing down the corridor. The rooms where Liz and Bernard were hiding were opposite each other. They signaled to each other from the doorframes just as the soulless giant stepped into view. He moved with jerky, disjointed movements, scrutinizing every shadowed corner as if he could see through the darkness. He started toward Bernard's room; the agent already felt the phantom grip of those massive fingers around his throat again. But then, the executioner shifted direction, striding straight towards where Liz and Anika were hidden. Liz readied herself to fire a shot right at the monster's face, hoping to buy enough time to escape with the girl using some risky maneuver.
