Not So weak Shikamaru × reader part 2

"So, are you guys coming to my party I'm throwing? I mean, it's just for us since we get to work together finally after how long?" Rock asked as Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, and Shikamaru were eating ramen together.

"Sounds lame," Shikamaru said as Naruto smiled.

"I'll be there!" He said.

"Are you going to invite Y/n?" Sasuke asked as Rock Lee smiled.

"Of course, I will she's our friend, I'm inviting more people, but everyone is busy with missions we aren't so," he said.

"She doesn't talk or anything. I know she is our friend, but something is wrong with her. You would be an idiot if you didn't see it. She's always just in the background, and she's super weak, too. How many times did we have to save her from things because she couldn't do it herself?" Sakura asked as she put her chopsticks in her bowl.

"Nothing is wrong with her okay, she just doesn't like talking. She has always been that way. I don't mind it, she's kind and I... I was thinking about asking her out after the mission," Rock Lee said as everyone looked at her shocked, but Shikamaru had the same idea.

Sakura knew how much he liked you, and so did Naruto. You always worked hard. During a famine, you made all the crops grow. You did it in secret, in the middle of the night, so no one could see you using your powers. But you were the only one who had plant powers in the village, so it was obvious who did it, but how still baffled him. You made a brand new irrigation system as well as replaced all the soil you could. It only took you six hours to do everything, and it wasn't too hard on your body, but you did all of that at thirteen and all by yourself. You never did it again or explained how you did it. You even denied you did it.

Shikamaru liked you from the moment you two slept in the same bed together as kids when your shadow clone was lurking around and doing weird stuff. It often went to his house, and you would always be too weak to go back home by yourself and tired, so you slept there. Shikamaru's dad was nice about it and even helped you with your shadow problem. He noticed before you did that it didn't have any bad intentions it was just there keeping an eye out for you. Shikamaru liked to hold you while you slept, and he hadn't done it in ages. He missed it more than he ever thought he could.

"You want to ask her out?!" Naruto asked, shocked.

"It seems right, I mean, she's always there when I need her, and I mean, I know she's not strong, but she works hard; Harder than even I do, I think. It's just for her it's just different. She never has to even write anything down for me to know what she's thinking. I just have to look at her to know," he said as Shikamaru looked down at his half-eaten bowl.

He lost his appetite, realizing he was way too late. Now that Rock Lee said something, he couldn't say anything to you without looking like a bad friend. You showed up, and Rock Lee cheered happily and pulled out a seat for you to sit next to him. You leaned sideways for a hug, and then you two did your secret handshake, making you smile.

"I'm not going to your party," Shikamaru said as you looked at him a bit disappointed and confused as to why.

"But why?" Naruto asked as he looked at him, annoyed.

It was painfully obvious that it was because Rock Lee was going to ask you out. You two did have a very strong bond, unlike you and him. Your bond was strong, but when it came to Rock Lee, he didn't have a single chance.

"Can we have one Ramen to go, please?" Rock Lee said as you took out your money and placed it on the table.

You nodded, and he smiled at you.

"I got paperwork to catch up on, and I don't feel like going," Shikamaru said as Rock Lee was discussing party ideas with you.

"You can make balloons?!" Lee asked as you made a kind of gesture to him and tried to make a balloon with your plant abilities, but it didn't fly.

It instead hit the ground, making you look at him.

"Okay, so I will get balloons. You can make the streamers any color will do and party hats," he said as Shikamaru was getting upset that Lee was planning the whole party with you and no one else.

"Come on, ditch the paperwork for now and hang you with us, please," Naruto said.

"I said no! No means no," Shikamaru said, making you look at him.

You wrote on your notepad, but he wouldn't look at it.

"I don't want to read anything you have to say. Y/n it won't change my mind, alright? Just leave me alone," he said as you made a flower appear and tried to give it to him.

"I got to go," he said as he took off, and you quickly followed him.

You finally got in front of him and put a wall around the both of you.

You wrote on the notepad and then gave it to him.

"If it's about the bathhouse accident, it wasn't my fault you didn't bother to put on a towel like the others did. But I swear I didn't see anything. I was going to make you some pants, but that would require me to look," you wrote, then he gave you back the note.

"It's not about the bathhouse. It's about nothing...," he said as you looked at him and then crossed your arms.

"Fine, you know I'm lying, but I'm not telling you anything right now. I'll tell you later, maybe if I feel up to it," he said as you put your arms down and then took down the wall.

"Thanks, oh, and here I got you something," he said as he pulled out a bunch of seeds from his pocket.

He gave them to you, and you smiled, and then you pretended to struggle as you grew them to see what they were. To your surprise, they were your favorite flowers, which made you smile happily, and you hugged him tightly.

He smiled and hugged you back and saw Rock Lee behind you. Lee looked at him, shocked while Shikamaru looked away a bit sad, knowing there was no way he was going to be able to date you. You pulled away and wrote on your notepad.

"Thank you for the flowers they are beautiful. Are you sure you don't want to come to the party?" You asked as he sighed.

"I guess I can make some time for it. How are you feeling after that monster attack? Sorry, I forgot to ask," he said.

"Good, I was just caught off guard then seeing you well...  I may just have gotten blindsided. It won't happen again unless you somehow end up well... again," you wrote, and you tried to make sense of it, and he smiled.

"I won't have plans to, but if you are near the bath house again and you have to fight a monster, let me know. Sorry, I tried to make you say something it was more of an accident than anything. I was just as shocked as you were," he said awkwardly.

"It's okay, well see you around. Thank you for the flowers again," you wrote.

"Oh wait, um, what are you going to wear?" He asked.

"Probably this, why?" You wrote.

"Um, just asking, he didn't say if it was formal or not," he said.

"Oh. I'm probably going as is just because I don't have anything else," you said as he nodded.

"Right, see you around," he said as you nodded and headed home.
