Three years have passed since Tom and I graduated from Hogwarts, he has been working hard with his Knights while I work as a Rune translator. Many witches and wizards come to me to assist them.

I spend most of my time at home, while Tom works out. Occasionally, we host his meetings in our cottage. It is a small place if you compare it with Abraxas manor or Nott manor. But I do everything in my power to make Tom feels comfortable inviting his friends into our home.

Tom is a wonderful partner, he is kind, respectful, and loving. Of course, only when we are alone, in public he still respectful and kind, but does not show much affection because he is shy.

Sporadically, he comes home mad because one of his knights made a mistake, but he has been working on his mood. He is trying to be more understanding and doesn't rip the head off the first arsehole that made a mistake on a mission night.

I have been asking him if we could adopt a pet, it could be a cat or a crup or maybe a magical creature.

He told me the only way we could have a pet is if that creature was bald, he does not want our home to be covered in fur.

One morning after he left, I went to the Diagon Alley, I wanted to find a nice creature that we could have at home. I am not really fond of frogs, so they were out of my list.

I don't like reptiles, so a lizard is a no for me. Furthermore, I knew that Tom would love if I brought a snake, but truth be told I am afraid of them. In front of his basilisk, I have to pretend I am not afraid and even pet and feed him.

I was getting tired, I had been to almost all the shops in the alley, and It was getting late. I needed it to go back home because I promised Tom to make something especial, he was not aware that this dinner was a bribe so he could agree that our new pet could stay.

I was giving up when I saw it, a nice bald cat in the store. Furthermore, I entered and asked the shopkeeper to help me get him because he will be coming home with me.

I paid for him and I apparate home. I left him explore, while I set his toys and his litter box.

He was happy exploring while I was cooking dinner. Dinner was ready, so I went and took a quick shower.

Finally at home, what a long day. I miss Rye so much. Mmm, smells delicious. I can hear that she is in the shower. I will have a quick nap in the chair by the fire while I wait for her, I am dying to kiss her.

I walked straight to my chair and the first thing I saw was a bald rat clawing my chair. —What the hell is this bald rat doing here?— I screamed.

—Oh, hi love. How was your day?— I said while kissing his cheek.

—Rye, what is that thing in my chair?— He said with a shocked face.

—That is not a rat, it is a cat and his name is Kai.

—No, no, no. If you name it, that means he is staying.

—He is, my love.

—I told you we could not have a pet.— He said, rolling his eyes.

—No. You said an animal with fur, and I did as you told me.— Please be nice to Kai.

—That bald rat, it is not going to sleep in our bed.

—Don't be mean, Tom. Give him a chance.

—So, the dinner was a bribe?— He said, arching a brow.

—Well... I, I really wanted a pet to make me company when you are not home, so I went and get Kai

—Fine, that rat can stay, but keep it away from me. You could have purchased a snake, that would be better.

We had a pleasant dinner, and we retired to have a glass of wine by the fire. Kai came straight from his bed and lay next to Tom's feet.

—Shoo, shoo, bald rat.— He scoffed.

—Tom, no.— He likes you.

—He will ruin my shoes.—He took his book and started to read, so he relaxed a bit. I was able to see how he made sure he was not kicking him our hurting him in any way.

—You know love, I was afraid of a new pet because in the orphanage there were a few kids who enjoyed hurting rats and other animals, and since I was the weird kid they blamed me. So I started to believe I was really the one who hurt all those animals.

—My love, you could never. I know how difficult your time was at the orphanage. But those days are over, you have a home, a girlfriend who loves you very much, friends, and now a bald rat that clearly likes you a lot.

—You are right, thank you, Rye. For always been here for me, I think Kai will be a nice addition to our little family.  He will accompany you when I am not home, and at night we could enjoy more moments like this as a family. The bald rat, it is not that bad after old.
