Leah was sitting in the living room floor with your baby boy in front of her, she had just changed him into his day outfit. You walked out of the bedroom and glanced over at them for a few seconds, you smiled at the sight of your wife whispering to your boy.
You walked over to the kitchen and poured yourself a cup of water, you brought it over to the living room. You sat down next to leah and smiled at Noah, you grabbed his little hand and he smiled up at you.
"What are you two doing?" you asked taking a small sip of the water in your cup. "I'm trying to get noah here, to say mumma." leah said tickling the sides of noah's tummy causing him to laugh a little. You smiled down at noah and drank some more water.
"Leah, he doesn't know how to talk yet.." you said looking over at leah. "No, he has to talk to me." leah shook her head, looking down at noah. "You can't force a 12 month old to talk le.." you smiled at nudged leah a little.
"I mean he kind of mumbled 'mum' the other day, i want him to say 'mumma' now.." leah said playing with noah's little hands. You smiled and shook your head. "Come on buddy, say 'mumma'..." leah tried encouraging noah.
Silence.
You tried not to smile or laugh, instead you just sipped some water. You looked over at leah who looked so defeated, you rubbed your hand on her knee and smiled. "Le-"
"M-..." your head turned when noah mumbled something. "Mmm.." he hummed. Leah nodded and smiled. "You can do it baby..." leah waited. Noah caught your attention for a second, you actually thought he'd say it this time.
You and Leah had your eyes fixed on noah's tiny mouth, waiting for the words to come out of his mouth.
"D-dada..."
Only to be taken back by 'some words' that indeed did come out of his mouth.
You and leah looked at each other sharing some confused looks, you looked at noah and furrowed your eyebrows. There was silence for a few seconds, you had no water left in your cup so you just sat there looking at noah wondering why he would say that. You covered your mouth and looked at leah, her expressions made you want to burst out laughing. It was a mixture of confusion and offended.
"Leah..." you said trying to hide the smile. "I know you're smiling.." leah looked at your and folded her arms. "I mean, you wanted him to speak...there you go." you said nodding at noah. He was smiling up at both of you. "I wanted him to call me 'mumma', not 'dada'..." leah said looking down at noah.
You laughed a little and looked at leah. "Stop laughing, there's nothing funny about this y/n." she said in a serious tone that made you want to laugh even more. "Yes it is...that's what you get when you try to rush him to start talking." you said.
"Maybe, he didn't even say 'dada'...maybe he said 'mama'." leah looked over at you. "No he didn't." you said quickly. "We both heard it.." you smiled.
"Don't worry baby...it's okay." you rubbed her shoulder. "So what....you're mum and i'm dada?" leah raised an eyebrow. "Leah come on...he didn't mean it in a bad way, i don't even he thought of what he said." you said trying not to smile anymore. "Mm..." leah went back to playing with his little hands. "I just wanted him to say something new.." leah frowned.
"Well, that was new." you said and kissed the side of leah's face.
