Will opened his eyes and immediately shut them again. Fuck. He hadn't had a real hangover in years. His hand shot out to the nightstand. Ander was a goddamn angel, a real one, not those asshats they sometimes fought. He pulled the pills off and tossed them into his mouth before he swallowed them. He'd drink the water in a minute.
When Maeve refused to stay with him, he'd fully committed to turning off the world and the shit in his skull. No point of being around on the seventeenth. Didn't want to think about his mom or what happened to her. He'd told Maeve he still couldn't believe that he talked to her about that. But he was trying to trust her, trying to do the right boyfriend things, even when he wasn't sure what they were exactly. He reached for the water and sat up, slamming the entire bottle before he snatched the next and repeated his action.
Finally, he opened his eyes and checked the clock. Ten. Good, it was still early. They needed to get the mission wrapped up so they could get moving. They'd been there too long, and it was getting to him. Ander was at the table and stared at his laptop and Maeve was curled up in the bed, her head resting on her knees. Shit, that was her "I'm upset" position. Had they argued again?
If they both were gonna be pissy all day, he'd lose his shit. There was no time for whatever drama kept cropping up. Maybe they'd argued about half-breeds like Will and Maeve had? Will got up and used the bathroom to do his morning routine and clean his teeth. He grabbed a beer out of the fridge and popped it open before he flopped back on his bed.
"Anything else we need to prep for tonight, Andy?"
Ander shook his head.
"Good. We should pack up before we leave. We can leave from the site when we're through. Gotta get rid of the body though, 'cause it ain't riding in the SUV. Been dead too long."
"We can either bury parts or burn it. Given the recent activity at the park, I would suggest burying it," Ander replied.
"Good point." He turned to Maeve. "You ever buried anything?"
"A body? Are you asking me if I've buried a body?"
The disbelief in her voice made Will smile. "A pet?"
"Oh, no, I haven't."
"Great, it can be a learning experience for you." He grinned at her horrified expression, which changed his grin to a genuine smile. He winked at her.
"Don't be a jerk!"
"It's my role. Andy broods and is moody and I'm the jerk." He tilted the beer to his lips.
Ander shot him a dirty look, which almost made him laugh.
"You're not always a jerk," she said in a sweet tone.
"True, sometimes I'm a dick." He laughed. His head still hurt, but today was the eighteenth. He and Maeve were okay. Ander was on the mend and tonight he was going to have a monster's head. Shit was good.
