3rd POV

As the sun set over the event for the ape king's seed distribution, Maxine and her group navigated through the bustling crowd.

The atmosphere was festive in Maxine's eyes. With the ape king handing out seeds for planting, symbolizing growth and unity among the tribes. Maxine, surrounded by her mates, felt a mix of excitement but nervous feeling. Most female orcs here showed disinterested in getting free seeds.

Out of all the orcs here, Maxine was the most interested in receiving the seed. After getting word of free bags of seeds, she came as fast as possible.

Free means free.

Even with something as simple as a sack of barley seeds, she could mash it into flour and create a variety of delicious foods. From soft bread to even sweet desserts. As they approached the Ape King's castle, everything seemed to be going well until Maxine suddenly found herself face-to-face with Rosemary...

Sebastian and Caius, walked beside her, their hands clasped in hers. Their hearts lifted at the sight of their wife's happiness, and her infectious energy brought smiles to their faces. Though they didn't show it outwardly, they felt a deep sense of peace seeing Maxine laugh and smile on their way here.

For Caius, this day was a rare escape from his usual work life at the palace, where he often dealt with greedy orcs seeking to exploit him for money and power. Their true intentions were always clear, even when they approached him after work, pretending to want to spend time together. All they really wanted was to gain something from him. There was no genuine intent.  But today was different—he was grateful to have taken a break to spend time with his family. There were no deceitful orcs to contend with, just his wife Maxine and the other three.. Sebastian, Rowen and Raymond.

That peace shattered the moment they reached the entrance and saw Rosemary standing before them. Shocked, not only was Maxine taken aback, but Sebastian and Caius were equally bewildered, wondering what she could possibly be doing here of all places.

The air crackled with tension. Seeing Rosemary again, Maxine forced a polite smile, though she struggled to hide her distaste. Not liking Rosemary one bit since she had endured too much of Rosemary's scheming in the past, and today was no different. Rosemary glared at her with the same cold intensity.

Rosemary's fox-like claws extended, sharp and meticulously clean. The sight of those claws so close sent a shiver down Maxine's spine, reminding her of the time she had narrowly escaped being slashed by them. Thank goodness Caius had intervened just in time.

The unexpected presence of Rosemary was a shock to Maxine. She hadn't expected her to show up. Rosemary usually only attended public events that involved contests or social gatherings—opportunities for her to flaunt and brag. A simple event to collect a sack of barley didn't seem like Rosemary's scene at all. The Ape King's small gathering to distribute free barley was far from the kind of social spectacle Rosemary enjoyed.

It was wrong for Maxine to snoop into Rosemary's life. But she wondered why Rosemary wanted barley for? Did she want barley or was it something else she came here for?

Rosemary wasn't the type to desire something so ordinary. As the niece of the Tiger King, she lived in luxury, with countless treasures at her fingertips. Big and expensive gifts that no ordinary female orc could ever hope to obtain. From emeralds to closets overflowing with clothing, she had been raised with a silver platter in hand, for goodness' sake! She was one of the few noble females in the beastcity, a part of royalty but raised spoiled, now becoming into the person she is today.
