I watch Aang and Momo play in the water with a smile that quickly drops when Aang jumps out the water onto Appa's saddle, "Hey, guys, I think this river's polluted," he bends the water off of him and onto everyone around him. This wouldn't be so bad if the water wasn't of a mud like consistency and smelt just as bad. The group of us cry out and groan until Aang bends the water off all of us.
"Well that explains why I can't catch a fish around here, because normally my fishing skills are off the hook!" He holds up a fishing hook with a smile, "Get it? Like a fishing hook?"
"I hope your fishing skills are better than your puns." I pat his shoulder with a smile, showing I only mean it in good fun.
The others laugh. "Yeah, too bad your skills aren't on the hook," Toph adds.
"It looks like we'll have to go somewhere else to get food. Assuming that'll fit into Sokka's master schedule." Katara turns to look at her brother as he unravels a long schedule.
Sokka rubs his chin in thought, "Hmm, it's doable. But that means only two potty breaks today."
"Hey, maybe we can get food there!" Aang points to a fishing village in the middle of the river. With that we decide to set up camp in the hills opposite the village, Aang attempts to camouflage Appa under a mat of moss. "Now you just look like a little hill with horns! Bye buddy!"
We then head to the river. "I don't feel anything. Where's the village?" Toph asks.
Sokka smiles, "It's in the middle of river."
"Sure is!" The new voice draws my attention away from the village and down to a man stood down by the river bank on a ferry, "My name's Dock. Mind if I ask who you are?"
Katara is quick to jump in with a cover story, "We're- umm... From the earth kingdom colonies."
"Wow... colonials! Hop on, I'll give you a ride into town."
As Dock paddles across the river, Katara turns to the man, "Why do you guys live on the river?"
"Because we're a fishing town. At least that's how it was before the factory moved in." Dock points with his paddle to the factory sat amongst the hills spiking waste into the river. "Army makes their metal there. Moved in a few years ago and started gunking up our river. Now our little village is struggling to survive."
The rest of the ride to the village is painfully quiet till we glide up to the docks. "Thanks for the ride!" Aang says with a wave to Dock who waves back with a smile.
Making our way through the village I found it hard to to watch those that resided there, everyone is sickly pale and skeletally thin, the clothes that hang loosely from their shoulders are ripped and colours faded. Katara seems to notice the same thing, "Look at this place... It's so sad. We have to help."
