Things have been peaceful recently- for once. After moving on from Piandao's we'd come across a secluded spring, we hadn't set up camp that long ago but already it was starting to feel like I could breath. Watching water ripple against my feet made it against my feet made it hard not to relax - well that and Sokka's strangely comforting presence beside me.

He looked peaceful too, his eyes unmoving from the end of his line, buried in the water. Usually I think Sokka takes the task of fishing too seriously, partially because when we've been away from civilisation for a while we need it for food but today we have plenty of food stocked from the village we'd just left and it finally looked like Sokka was doing this for enjoyment rather than survival.

It was nice to see. Sokka's face full of pure focus - not the stressed kind that caused his brows to pinch together or a deep frown but the intent kind leaving him with a leaving him with a light smile drawn across his lips. I could watch him like this all day. If the others would let me.

"Aang, I know swimming is fun and all, but do you really think you should be exposing yourself like that?" Even though she couldn't see the boy, the judgement in Toph's voice is evident, "Cover up."

The boy in question puts up his hands defensively, "What? I'm wearing swimming trunks."

"I know. It's your tattoos I'm worried about. What if someone sees you?"

Katara shrugs, "There are walls all around us. It's completely safe."

"Yeah, besides who's this far out from civilisation anyway?" I add. Toph seems to give in and Aang goes back to having his fun.

"Ooo, what about fire knives? And! This is one you could use to spar with me, then I can help a bit more." Sokka flips around the scroll to show me the form.

"I could try it but I don't know about sparring with you when I can't fully control it all yet..."

Sokka frowns lightly, "Oh come on! It'll be good for you. What's the worst that could happen?" I raise on eyebrow at him, "Yeah, okay, don't answer that-"

"-severe burns, the others finding out in the worst possible way-"

"-I said not to answer that." I can't help but laugh at the boy and it doesn't take long for him to join in.

As the sun starts to get low, Sokka's lesson comes to an end and the two of us make our roll outs, though even then we don't separate. Laying side by side we discuss the plan for tomorrow and then anything else that comes to mind and then even more.
