The morning is peaceful, I am woken by the light of dawn on my face, Sokka is beside me and all feels well. A gasp flies out my mouth as the building is rocked by some unknown source. Sokka flies awake eyes wide, whipping his head from side to side. Then he grabs my hand, pulling me out the room to find the others, we are met with the sight of Fire Nation airships closing in on us.
Aang is attempting to keep them at bay, batting away their bombs with airbending. A loud rumbling from behind us has me looking over my shoulder to find Toph and Haru bending a whole in the wall. "Come on!" She yells. "We can get out through here!"
The group of us rush to here only to notice we're a member down, Zuko stands firm, facing the airships. Aang turns to him, "What are you doing?"
"Go ahead! I'll hold them off. I think this is a family visit."
Sokka tugs at my arm, "Come on! We've got to get out of here!"
Guiding Aang towards the whole, assuring him the Zuko will be alright, we face our retreat. The earthbenders among us lift a dome over us and our escape route to shield from the onslaught of explosions still raining down on us.
"I can't get him to go in there!" Aang says as he pulls on Appa's reins, "Appa hates tunnels!"
Katara places a hand on his shoulder, "Aang, there's no way we can fly out of here."
"We'll have to find a way!"
Sokka sighs, "We need to split up. Take the tunnel and get to the stolen airship."
Katara's eyes blow wide, "No!" She rushes to her father, "The Fire Nation can't separate our family again!" I frown, part of me feels bad for the southern siblings, part of me is jealous that they even have the choice. My family is who knows where, along with Haru's dad and teo's dad and the Duke's friend. Toph's and Suki's family don't even know where they are right now. I find myself squeezing Sokka's hand tighter.
Hakoda speaks softly, hands rubbing his daughter's shoulders soothingly, "It'll be okay. It's not forever." Katara hesitates before leaping into her dad's arms, Sokka does the same once she's stepped away. The other group takes off down the path, the rest of us turn to Toph with her hand against the protective wall they had raised.
"I can clear that away and we can fly out through there!"
Suki frowns, "Um, there's an awful lot of fire in that general direction..."
I shake my head, "If this is a repeat of our attempt to break that Fire Nation blockade on the way to Omashu I will not be happy."
