Summary: Travis starts overworking himself due to the upcoming season and doesn't seem to know when to take a break. Taylor, noticing this, tries to get him to relax, 'causing some unknown emotions and insecurities to appear from the past.
For the sake of this chapter, let's pretend his practices start at around the same time that her month long break does :)
.............."Okay! That's enough for today! But I expect you to keep up training and be right back here on Monday, seven am!" Andy Reid exclaimed to the locker room full of football players.
"Yes, sir!" They all replied, breathless from the exhausting day of practice. It was the first practice back from break and it was clear they were a little rusty and out of shape due to not exercising or practicing on the off season.
"Hey, you got any plans after this? Taylor's staying with you during her month break, right?" Patrick asked, walking up next to where Travis was putting stuff in his duffel bag.
He nodded. "Yeah, I think I'll hit the in-home gym we have before dinner. She said she was making my favorite meal." Travis replied, a soft smile on his face as he talked about his girl.
"You're going to hit the gym right when you get home? We were just playing football for like three hours?" Patrick questioned.
Travis shrugged nonchalantly. "You heard coach, we gotta keep up training."
"I'm sure he didn't mean the second you got home." Patrick replied, chuckling.
"I don't want to be rusty when the season starts. That's all." Travis replied, slinging his bag over his shoulder. "Anyway, I'll see you on Monday."
Patrick nodded and Travis stood there awkwardly for a few more seconds before turning and walking towards the exit.
He got in his car, set his head back against the head rest, and sighed, trying to ignore the ache in his legs from the nonstop running. He allowed himself to sit in silence for a few minutes before he started the car and drove off towards his house.
When he walked in the house, he was immediately met with the smell of gnocchi pasta. He set his duffel down next to the door and walked through the house to the kitchen.
When he walked in, he smiled softly and let his shoulder rest against the door. Taylor was mixing the pasta in a pot while she hummed a song softly, her voice immediately calming all the stress from the day.
He stayed there for a few seconds before Taylor must've noticed his presence 'cause she stopped humming and turned towards him, a smile growing on her face. "You're home!" She quickly jolted forward and threw her arms around him.
"Hey, baby. It smells so good in here." Travis chuckled at her enthusiasm, wrapping his arms around her waist.
"I was sad and you weren't in bed this morning." She admitted, burying her head in his neck. "You said you didn't have practice until two."
"I know, sweetie. But I decided to head down to the gym this morning and then get to practice early." Travis replied, rubbing circles on her back.
"Oh, okay. Well, dinners almost ready! Why don't you freshen up while I finish this up." Taylor said, removing her head from his neck to look him in the eyes.
"I will, but I'm gonna head back down the gym for just a little while longer and then I'll take a shower and join you here, okay?" Travis replied.
"But don't you think you've been working out a lot recently? Why don't you take a little break?" Taylor asked and Travis looked at her for a few seconds.
