The night started pretty nicely. Just Taylor and Travis, headed out to a sweet dinner date to watch together and spend some quality time alone since the rush of the football season had restricted that a little bit.
And then, it happened, Joe.
Taylor had no idea why he was even there, at this rich, fancy dinner. Even when they were together, he loathed going out to dinner or just anywhere public with Taylor, claiming he 'hated crowds' and 'didn't wanna cause a scene'.
But of course, just Taylor's luck, they had to run into him at the dinner.
He looked a little different; his hair was scruffier, he had small bags under his eyes that indicated he had trouble sleeping, and he had a little bit of stubble like he was trying to grow something, but he still had those bright blue eyes and specific posture that was undeniably Joe's.
"Taylor." He had said with surprise. "Didn't think I'd be running into you on a random Friday night."
Taylor smiled, but it very clearly didn't reach her eyes. "Joe. Uh, hey. How- what are you doing here?"
"I, uh, am on a date," Joe replied, like he was somehow embarrassed about telling his ex that he was on a date with someone else. "You?"
Travis tried not to grimace, considering it was obvious as to why Taylor was there. He was literally holding her hand.
"Oh, me too. This is my boyfriend, Travis." Taylor replied, with a lot more pride and calm radiating from her when she mentioned her reason for being there, unlike Joe.
But Travis didn't seem to acknowledge Taylor's pride for him, since he was just focused on the fact that Taylor was now talking to her ex-boyfriend of six years when they were supposed to be at a table by now, feeding each other shrimps or something. And it didn't help that Joe was so obviously checking her out and looking her up and down. But Taylor, being the sweet woman she was, was talking to him as well and not even noticing his other motive.
"So, have you written any more songs recently?" Joe asked.
Taylor nodded. "Yeah, I've been in and out of the studio in between shows and everything."
"Cool, cool. Well, you look beautiful. "He commented. And Travis tried very hard not to yell or punch anybody, with that being evident in the way he gripped Taylor's hand tighter.
Taylor seemed to finally notice that at that, 'cause she cleared her throat and glanced at Travis.
"Alright, well, we should get to our table. So, uh, see you later."
See you later? What the fuck did that mean?"
The rest of the night, Travis tried to keep a happy persona and smile, even getting to feed Taylor some shrimp, but the mood had obviously been dimmed. Especially because Joe's table was a few tables down and he was facing them. Taylor's back was to him, but Travis's was not, and he could see as Joe would glance up to Taylor's back while his date would ramble on about whatever and just stare at her, way too personally.
Which leads us to now, Taylor and Travis walking into their house after a long dinner.
Taylor let out a sigh as she got out of her heels and pushed them up against the wall. "Ugh, those heels were killing me."
