Distractions at Dinner

Summary: Taylor goes over to have dinner with her family, but sadly, Travis couldn't make it. Taylor, instead of interacting much, is glued to her phone, texting Travis. Austin eventually has enough and sneaks behind Taylor to read her texts out loud.

"Hey, Mom," Taylor greeted her mom as Andrea opened the door, a soft motherly smile on her face.

"Taylor, sweetheart! C'mon in, the food's just coming out of the kitchen!" Andrea guided Taylor into the same house.

"Travis is sorry he couldn't come, but he gave me this to bring y'all as a little gift," Taylor said, handing Andrea the bottle of white wine.

"Whoa, Vincent Latour. He has taste." Andrea commented. "And tell him not to worry and that we'll miss him. We know his football schedule is pretty strict. We'll see him next week at the game against the Chargers, though."

"Yep," Taylor agreed as they walked into the kitchen, where Scott was sitting at the table and Austin was lingering near the freshly baked cookies, sneakily trying to grab one while he thought no one was looking.

"Austin! Get away from there. Not until after dinner!" Andrea scolded, and Austin jumped back in surprise, spinning around to face his mom and sister. "I wasn't doing anything," he shrugged nonchalantly.

Andrea rolled his eyes, going over to put the wine in the fridge.

"Hi, Teffy." Austin greeted her sister, bringing her into a soft hug.

"Hey, Austin," Taylor replied. "How're you doin'? How's Sidney?"

"Good. We're both good. I'm just saddened that mom isn't refraining me from the cookies." Austin pouted.

"Because you haven't had a bite of actual dinner yet, so you can wait until after that," Andrea replied.

Taylor left Austin and Andrea to bicker while she greeted her dad, kissing his cheek. "Hi, daddy."

"Hey, sweetheart." He replied.

Taylor walked around the table and sat down, being joined shortly after by Austin and Andrea.

"So, how're you and Travis doing?" Scott asked, sitting up straighter in his seat and taking his reading glasses off.

"Good, great." Taylor smiled. "We've just been enjoying time together since the tour ended, and so did football season. So, now he's at training camp and I won't get to see him for a month."

"Aw, poor baby." Austin pouted, and Taylor rolled her eyes. "Haha."

Andrea just shook her head at the two, turning her head to Austin. "So, Aus, what have you and Sydney been doing recently?"

As Austin began to talk about him and his girlfriend, Taylor listened until she felt her phone ping in her purse. She reached over the back of her chair and fished her phone out of her purse to see a text from Travis waiting.

Travis: Hey, baby. Football practice for the day just ended, headed back to the dorm room now until dinner. When did you say your dinner with your family was?

Taylor: It actually just started. The food has been plated:)

Travis: Oh, I didn't mean to interrupt. Just wanted to talk to my baby for a second. But I can let you get back to your family. Love you❤️

Taylor: Wait, I can talk to you for a bit. My family's too focused on Austin currently. And I'll always be up to talk to you, my sweet little football boy😘

Travis: Aw, you love me that much?

Taylor: I love you more than anything;)

Travis: Even more than your cats and friends?

Taylor: Whoa, now, I have standards.

"Taylor."

Taylor's head shot up from her phone at her voice being called. "Yeah?"

"I just asked if you have a plan nailed down for when you wanted to announce the album?" Andrea asked.

"Oh, yeah." Taylor nodded. "There are a few more things we need to nail down, but we worked a lot of it out."

"Well, that sounds great," Andrea said. "Are you okay? You've been looking down at your phone a lot."

"Yeah, Travis just wanted to check in, say hi. Let me know what he was doing," Taylor replied, and Andrea nodded.

Andrea then began to get wrapped up in a conversation with Scott right as her phone pinged again.

Travis: Understood. Have I told you how much I love you?

Taylor: Hm, not today. I don't think.

Travis: Well, I love you so much.

Taylor: I love you more, baby❤️

Travis: That's actually not possible, sweetie.:)

Andrea, Scott, and Austin continuously glanced at Taylor and then at each other.

Suddenly, Austin got up from his seat quietly and tiptoed behind Taylor to look down at her phone.

Taylor had no idea what was going on until Austin started speaking out loud, mimicking a high-pitched voice. "I'll always be up to talk to you, my sweet little football boy!"

Taylor's head jolted up, and she looked behind her where Austin was standing. "What are you-"

"Have I told you how much I miss you?"Austin continued. "Hm, not today!"

"Austin!" Taylor exclaimed.

"Well, I love you so much!" "I love you more, baby!" "Not possible, sweet bubba!"

"Shut up, Austin!" Taylor yelled. "And I didn't call him Bubba."

"I know, I paraphrased a little bit." Austin laughed.

"Go away!" Taylor argued.

"Okay, okay. Calm down, kids." Scott said, and Austin went back to his seat. "Well, she's glued to her phone. I thought I might as well see what was so interesting. It did not disappoint."

Taylor rolled her eyes.

"Alright. Tay, put your phone away and engage with the family. Austin, stop picking on your sister and sit back down." Andrea said, and Austin went back around the table to sit back down.

"Now, where were we?" Andrea continued.

Taylor tried to pay attention, but her phone began to ping once again

Travis: It very much is:)

Taylor: I just got caught texting you, and Austin snuck behind me to blurt out our texts. I'm now being forced to engage in the family. I'll call you when I get home. I love you, baby❤️

Travis: I love you, too. Sweetheart. Talk to you later.

Taylor smiled down at her phone, her heart overflowing with love and compassion for the man she loved more than anything.

"I just love you so much, by sweet baby boo!"

"AUSTIN!"

I've had so much writing inspiration lately, it's great✌️

I've found that I've been able to write a lot more if I don't stress to make the chapters really long. So I hope you're cool with more posts, but not as long:)
