˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗ That day, Kat found herself in a store with bear traps on the shelves and guns on the wall. The only thing she could think of was how much her mother would despise her going in there.

Kat and Nancy got Jonathan up to speed, so he was on board with the whole 'bringing the monster to us and could possibly die' plan.

She filled up a shopping basket with a hammer, boxes of nails, and lighter fluid.

The teens sat all of their purchases on the counter, including two bear traps and a can of gasoline.

The store clerk stared at them, unmoving.

"And I'll have four boxes of the .38s, please," Jonathan said, pointing to the boxes of bullets displayed behind the counter.

The man set the boxes on the counter with everything else. "What you kids doin' with all this?"

Nancy and Jonathan looked to each other, desperately trying to figure out what to say. Kat wasn't fazed, though. She looked him in the eye and wittily said, "Monster hunting."

He probably didn't believe her, but either way, he rang everything up and the three walked back to Jonathan's car with a box full of weapons.

Jonathan opened the trunk and set a cardboard box inside. "Monster hunting?" he laughed.

Kat shrugged, setting another bag inside the trunk. "I mean, I wasn't lying," she defended, also laughing.

Nancy was in her own world, and finally started to say what was on her mind. "You know, last week...I was shopping for a new top I thought Steve might like. It took me, Kat, and Barb all weekend."

"It was torture," Kat remarked.

Nancy rolled her eyes and continued. "It seemed like life or death, you know? And...and now—"
