˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗ Katarina Henderson knew lots of things. She knew that a shrimps heart is located in its head, she knew that the shortest war lasted for thirty-eight minutes, and she knew that the last letter added to the alphabet was J.
But there was one thing she couldn't figure out.
What Nancy Wheeler saw in Steve Harrington.
Sure, he was conventionally attractive and had good hair, but Steve Harrington was a total asshole. A bully, some might say. So when Nancy told her about them over the phone, Kat couldn't be more confused.
"Nance, you know I hate him," she spoke into the phones receiver, sitting up on her quilted blue and white comforter. "He's the biggest asshole I've ever met."
"He's different when it's just us."
Now, Kat definitely wasn't an expert in love, but she was almost ninety-nine percent sure that was not a good thing. Every single relationship that had started that way, had ended the same way. Bad.
How can Kat even begin to explain Steve Harrington? She hated the way he talked to adults, the way he talked in general, the way he interrupted people in class, the way he openly made out with his girlfriend of the week in the hallway. But most of all, she hated how he would have sex with a girl, then never talk to her again.
That was not what Kat wants to happen to Nancy.

˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗ It was the next morning, Kat and Nancy were walking into school together, talking in hushed whispers about none other than Steve.
A voice came from behind the girls. "So, did he call?" It was Barbara, or Barb as her friends called her. She had brown eyes that were always happy, short red hair, a freckled face, and she always knew what to say. Kat, Nancy, and Barb had been friends for as long as any of them can remember.
"Keep your voice down," Nancy warned, her big brown eyes becoming wider.
Barb leaned in closer. "Did he?"
Still, Nancy decided they were being too loud, so she checked over each of her shoulders before she barely whispered, "I've told you, it's not like that."
Kat tried to suppress an eye roll. It's definitely like that. "It's absolutely like that, Nance."
"I mean, yes, he likes me, but not like that." The girls stopped at Nancy and Kat's locker as Nancy continued, still keeping her voice quiet. "We just...made out a couple times."
"We just...made out a couple times," Barb mocked, earning a laugh out of Kat. "You're gonna be so cool now, it's ridiculous."
As Nancy objected, Kat added, "Are you referring to Steve as cool?"
Nancy just waved Kat off after that.
Barb shrugged, leaning up against the lockers. "You better still hang out with us, that's all I'm saying. If you become friends with Tommy H. or Carol—"
"Gross!" both Kat and Nancy said at the same time, brows furrowed.
Nancy continued with, "It was just a one-time..."
All it took was a small eyebrow raise from Kat for Nancy to correct herself.
"Two-time thing." Nancy smiled, picking up a folded piece of paper that was stuck behind different books.
Before Nancy could even unfold it, Kat already knew what it was.
'Meet Me.
Bathroom. -Steve'
was written in blue marker across a ripped off piece of paper.
Although Kat wouldn't tell Nancy this, she had never seen someone past the age of ten not write in cursive, let alone with blue marker.
"You were saying?" Barb said in a way that Kat had to chuckle. Barb had a way of doing that, she was so charming.
Nancy couldn't hide her excited smile when she broke off from Kat and Barb into the bathroom, but Kat couldn't help but be annoyed at Steve Harrington.
yippee so i thought of this character at around 2 am this morning and decided it needed a full five season (when it comes out) story.
im trying something new for this story, as you can tell it's set up differently from both crazy kid and take on me, and that's because neither gina or steph is in this (sadly) i wanted to use this story as a way to try new things, since you could probably tell by now that this is a straight fic. i also used past tense since i feel like using present tense is very hard for storytelling and only good for dialogue
but yeah, i really hope you guys enjoy this story
oh also if you are reading the s2 chapters for crazy kid, i am still updating that as well as this because the grind never stops
