˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗ As Kat entered the lobby of Hawkins Lab, she had to say, it was a little underwhelming.
She was sort of expecting government crawling around, a big experiment happening, or something else that wasn't just an abandoned building. Not that she's complaining though, an abandoned Hawkins Lab is safer than an occupied Hawkins Lab.
"Well this looks promising," Steve commented as the five of them stood over the big HNL logo on the floor.
Dustin snapped back, "We're in the lobby."
Kat shined her flashlight against the vines snaking across the walls. "And where are we going? What are we looking for?"
"You all seen Return of the Jedi?" Dustin asked, turning to look at the four.
Steve nodded. "The one with the teddy bears?"
"Ewoks," Dustin corrected, finger pointed in the air.
Steve just shrugged. "Yeah, it's the best one."
Nancy raised a brow. "Is it?"
"No, the sibling plot twist was bonkers, but every child loves it, so it tracks," Dustin said. He walked away from the group as he continued to speak. The four followed behind him, moving further into the lab. "In the film, if you recall, the rebels need to destroy a second Death Star, but it's surrounded by a protective energy shield, which is created by a shield generator."
Steve rolled his eyes. "Yeah, thanks for a summary of a movie we've all seen," he said, tone dripping in sarcasm as it usually did when he spoke to Dustin.
"It's an oddly relevant movie, Steve," Dustin shot back, also full of sarcasm. "I think this circular flesh wall is Vecna's version of an energy shield, except it's not sci-fi," Dustin said, still walking, and everybody else still following. "It's supernatural, created by Vecna's dark magic. And this dark magic shield is what's preventing us from reaching him and Holly." Dustin turned to face Kat, Steve, Nancy, and Jonathan. "But if my math is correct," he continued, "the generator for the shield has to be in this lab."
