˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗ Kat was sitting in her business class two weeks after they closed the gate.

She hadn't talked to Steve after that night, even though she really wanted to tell him to go to the doctor because he definitely had a concussion.

Everyone rushed out of the room as the bell rang, but Kat's teacher, Mr. Hauser, pulled her aside.

Her mind had started to race, her first thought being that she failed the latest test they took.

Mr. Hauser leaned back in his chair and rubbed his hands together. "I love your work ethic," he started off saying. "I know you've asked me to write a letter of recommendation for college applications in the fall, and, don't worry I still am," he said, Kat unsure of where he was going with that. "But, I was reading through your extra curriculars and I just had to say...I am amazed."

Kat smiled. "Thank you, Mr. Hauser. Sorry if this is too forward, but where are you going with all of this?" she asked, her brows forming a line.

He moved a few papers around on his desk, pulling out a job application form and handing it to her. "There's this management position that'll be open this summer. I'm sure you've heard of the mall they're building in town." Kat nodded. The mall was all anyone could talk about. "Well, I believe you would be a perfect fit for the job."

Kat read over the application. "Yeah, yeah, thank you so much. Uh, when's the interview?"

"This weekend."

"That's perfect, thank you!" she said, walking out of Mr. Hauser's classroom.

˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗ Kat walked into town hall that weekend in her nicest, most professional clothes. She read over her resume again as she waited to be called back.

"Katarina Henderson?" a woman said, a clipboard in hand as her eyes scanned the room.

Kat stood up, a smile on her face. "Yes, that's me."

"Alright, just back here," the woman said, leading her to a room, where there was a man sitting behind a desk.

"Hi, I'm Katarina," Kat introduced herself with a smile, shaking the man's hand. She handed him her resume. "Here is my resume."

The man sat down and read it over, nodding to himself every few moments. "For the Scoops Ahoy management, right?"

Kat tried to hide her surprise. Scoops...Ahoy. It sounded like an ice cream shop.

˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗ Spoiler alert: it was, in fact, an ice cream shop.

She'd be making ten dollars an hour to work with incompetent high school kids, all while scooping ice cream for little kids and elderly people.

But a management job, nonetheless. She'd sit in on employee interviews, sign for packages, order new shipments of ice cream, take inventory at the beginning and end of each day, but best of all, she'd get free ice cream whenever she wanted.

Summer won't be too bad, right?
