THREE MONTHS LATER

˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗ Kat was reading over Steve's resume as she got out of the passenger seat of his BMW. "Why'd you put your mom as a reference?"

Robin rushed up behind her, reading over her shoulder. "You are such a dingus," she commented, flicking him in the back of the head.

"Well, why not?" Steve defended, holding the door to Family Video open for the girls. "She's, like, super well-respected."

Kat squinted her eyes. "I don't think I've ever seen your parents before," she said as she walked up to the front desk. She gave Steve no time to retort before she started talking to the guy at the counter. "Hello, we're look—" Kat started, the same smile she used for all of her job interviews.

The guy, Keith, put his hand up, signaling for her to stop talking. "I'm gonna pause you right there," he said in a monotone voice. "You three worked at the mall."

"Correct."

"Now you're here"—Keith grabbed the three resumes, holding them in front of his face—"with resumes, and about to ask to apply to work here."

Robin leaned her elbows on the counter. "We weren't fired you know. The mall burned down and, like, killed a bunch of people."

He put them down, giving Robin a blank stare. "Thanks for sharing. Didn't know." He snapped his fingers, pointing to Robin. "Three favorite movies, go."

"Uh...The Apartment, Hidden Fortress, Children of Paradise."

He turned to Kat, snapping his fingers at her. "You, go."

Kat pursed her lips as she thought. "Alien, Nine to Five, and Juliet of the Spirits."

"You"—Keith snapped his fingers at Steve—"go."
