˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗ Kat sped-walk down the hallway, making Dustin and Steve's arguing become muffled.
She wiped a stray tear off of her cheek, steps slowing.
Kat stopped, pressed her back against the wall, and let her legs give out. She sat on the floor, knees pulled to her chest, just thinking. About Dustin's tantrum, the fact that she decided that they completely abandon Hop and El, the fact that they were most likely not going to find a way out of here anytime soon.
She let her eyes unfocus, and Kat didn't really know how much time had actually passed before a beam of light caught her attention.
From around the corner, light bounced off of the goo-covered vines, light from a flashlight. The light got brighter, and accompanying footsteps grew loud.
Kat stood up and began to round the corner, but she ran face first into Steve's chest.
Even under the circumstances, Kat expected Steve to make a joke, laugh, smile, or something light hearted, but he just stood there.
Kat furrowed her brows, shifting her flashlight so she could get a better look at Steve's face.
His cheeks were slick with what Kat could only assume were tears on account of his bright red eyes. There was a small cut on his temple, a bruise already forming.
"What happened?" Kat asked, eyes wide, right hand cradling the side of Steve's face. She wiped a tear off of his chin with her thumb.
Steve looked down, not meeting Kat's eyes. "Your brother..." Steve took in a deep breath through his nose. "He's lost it. Went all rabid, or something," he said. Steve hesitated for a moment. "He punched me in the face," he mumbled, though Kat caught it perfectly.
