You broke me for nothing...

Chapter 76

Chris pov...

Kate is pacing up and down in the room while rubbing her belly. She looks at me and chuckles... "This baby is already just like you..." She says smirking. I look at her amused... "How so?" I ask and she chuckles again. "Just as stubborn..." She says and ma laughs... "She got you there..."  Ma ads and i roll my eyes... We had the ultrasound earlier, but our baby was not cooperating. But the doctor was not willing to give up just yet and recommended that Kate would move around in the hope the baby would move and we will be able to see the gender. It was frustrating, but there was nothing else we could do... I think our little Muppet wanted to keep it a surprise. 

"If this is a sign... You guys are in for a whole lot of trouble..." Ma says with a twinkle in her eyes and starts to laugh... Kate chuckles and looks at me smirking before looking at me again. "Chris was a handful..." She ads and i throw my hands up in the air and now both Kate and ma laugh... 

"Yeah... Yeah... You both laugh now... But sweetheart.... If the baby doesn't move... We will have to wait for a few weeks..." I say smirking and Kate sighs... "Come on baby... Mama wants to know... Be good for mommy..." Kate says rubbing her stomach making me chuckle... 

"Maybe you should talk to the baby... You always get the baby to calm down..." Kate says and i smirk. I stand up and walk over to her putting my hand on her belly. I lean down, lift her shirt and kiss her belly. "Come on baby.... Be good for us... Daddy wants to know if you are a boy or girl..." I whisper to her belly with a big smile on my face... "Please dont make us wait another few weeks... We are excited to know..." I say and kiss her belly again before looking up at Kate. She looks back at me with a big smile... God that smile... A smile filled with love. God that smile is going to kill me one day... That is a smile to die for. 

The door opens and the doctor walks back in... "Okay... Let's give this another try..." He says and i kiss Kate's cheek. She looks nervous. I know she jokes... But i know she is dying to know. I could see it by the look on her face when the doctor told us he could not see... I help Kate lay down and she looks at me nervous as she lifts her shirt. 

Once again, the doctor puts the gel on her belly and starts the same routine all over. I sit down next to Kate and hold her hand. I am nervous. I hope and pray the baby has moved and we can see the gender. The doctor hums, while moving the thingy over her belly. I dont know what it is called... It does not matter. We just need it to tell us what we are having. 

"Okay... Let's see if the little one is granting us a little peek..." The doctor says, his eyes focused on the screen... Kate is focused on the screen and i chuckle as she is mumbling or better said pleading. 

"Well, the good news is that he has moved..." The doctor says and turns to us with a big smile... We look at him a little confused at first... Kate is the first one to say something. "He? We are having a boy?" She asks and the doctor nods... "Yes... He... You guys are having a boy..." The doctor says and i look at Kate who now has tears in her eyes... "A boy?" She asks again to confirm and the doctor nods... "See... A boy..." He says pointing at the screen and we both look. 

"A boy..." I whisper looking at the screen in awe and kiss Kate's hand... "We are having a boy..." I say again and look at Kate who has tears in her eyes... "We are having a boy..." She says and we smile at each other. Then i realize ma is in the room to and i look back at her. Ma has tears in her eyes and i smile... "What do you say about that, grandma... You are getting another grandson..." I say and she smiles and nods wiping away some tears. 

"A boy... You are going to be parents to a beautiful boy..." She says and stands up. She kisses Kate's cheek followed by a hug before hugging me... While we are in a daze from the news, the doctor does some more checks before printing a picture of the ultrasound. 

About half an hour later we are walking out. Kate's hand is firmly in mine. She is holding the ultrasound picture in the other staring at it. She hasn't said much. She just keeps staring at it. I lead her out followed by ma. I help her in the car and open the back door for ma so she can get in. Kate is still staring at the picture and i can't help but worry. Should she not say more... Should she not be happier? Is the fact that we are having a boy traumatizing.  "Are you okay, sweetheart?" I carefully ask when i had sat down behind the wheel. She looks up at me and smiles. She nods. "I am good." She whispers and looks back at the picture. I have so much to ask but i dont want to ask with ma present. 

"Can we go and get ice cream?" She asks and i smile and nod. It is a bit of relief. She wants ice cream... She always wants ice cream when she is happy... So, it must mean she is happy about it being a boy. 

"Do you want to come along to get ice cream... Or do we have to drop you off at home first?" I ask ma looking at her through the rear-view mirror... Ma smirks... "I could go for ice cream..." She says and i smirk back at her... "Ice cream it is..." I say and start the car...
