After breakfast the next day, all the teams went to play practice games. Karasuno was playing Nekoma, and Lev was determined to stop the freak quick attack.
Lev eventually did stop the quick attack and got Nekoma a point. After a quick time out, Karasuno was back on the court with a plan, however everyone panicked when they saw Hinata and Asahi going for the same ball. They collided with each other.
"Someone's eager to improve." Himari said.
Yachi tilted her head, wondering what her friend meant. Himari smiled at her and pointed at the ginger,
"Hinata is so eager to improve and grow that he just went for the ball without thinking."
Hopefully it's a good thing for the team, Himari thought to herself as she watched the intense conversation Hinata and Kageyama were having.
"Seems like Hinata and Kageyama just had an argument. You heard them, right? What was it about?" Yachi asked Kiyoko.
Kiyoko nodded, keeping her eyes on the game, "but it's not just Hinata and Kageyama. The moment Hinata ran into Asahi, everyone got nervous."
Himari nodded, "One thing Kageyama said was wrong though. During the quick attack, it's not his call, it's Hinata's. He needs to understand that."
The game continued until Karasuno lost. After they did their flying laps and debrief, Suga took Hinata and Kageyama out for a talk. Himari saw and followed, listening from the doorway.
"We can at least test it out, right? I mean the last time we played Nekoma we pulled off the normal quick." Suga said.
As they continued talking, Himari rolled her eyes at Kageyama and Suga's thought process. Eventually Ukai joined the discussion too. After they finished talking, Himari walked out with a glare directed at the two setters and the coach.
"You're wrong, Kageyama."
The first year setter looked behind him and flinched when he saw Himari's face.
"What are you talking about?"
"The quick attack isn't something that you control, Hinata is the one who controls it. If you can't see that fact, I'm afraid that you haven't changed much from your middle school days."
"Mari, stop!" Suga yelled, which attracted the attention from the people inside.
Kageyama's eyes widened before stormed towards the girl and grabbed her by her shirt. She just looked at him with a blank face.
"What do you know about it? You can't even play."
"Woah, you two, stop." Ukai demanded.
Suga rushed forward trying to pry Kageyama's hand off her shirt, but he couldn't.
"You just want to stick to what you know, but to improve you need to take risks. You're a coward Kageyama, you're afraid of failing. I mean, honestly, do you even want to put in the effort at all?"
Kageyama glared at Himari before pulling his fist back. He swung, but Kuroo, who had been listening, rushed out and pulled them apart while Suga and Daichi stopped Kageyama.
Kuroo immediately began checking to make sure Himari was fine. He then looked at Kageyama who slightly flinched. The first year setter kept his head down and stormed inside.
"Why did you say that?" Daichi asked, his tone demanding.
Himari slightly glared at the captain, "He needs to understand that he will never improve if he doesn't take risks and fail. If you guys continue like this, you'll never make it to nationals and Kageyama will become a selfish player again. It's like you guys aren't putting in any effort to actually be better."
Himari's glare hardened causing the two third years to flinch, "This is a training camp, it's probably the only time you can try new things without worrying. You're surrounded by national players who you can learn from, but you guys rely too much on those two and that one quick attack. I agreed to help you guys, but I don't see the point if you're not going to try."
They watched as she walked back inside, contemplating on her words. They looked at each other before heading back inside. Hinata felt a little guilty, but he was happy to know that someone understood what he was talking about.
Inside the gym, Himari had a smile on her face as everyone looked at her. She just ignored them and stood next to Yachi and Kiyoko.
"Are you alright, Mari?" Yachi asked.
"Of course."
However, for the rest of the day, Himari was giving Kageyama and some of others the cold shoulder.
Eventually, the day came to an end and Karasuno had to go back to Miyagi.
"Bye, Mari. We'll see you in two weeks." Kuroo said as he hugged the girl.
"See ya." She responded tiredly.
Soon, everyone was on the bus and asleep. When they got back, Himari and Kiyoko offered to walk Yachi back, but they saw Hinata and Kageyama walk into the gym and the blonde girl decided to check on them.
"Good night, Yachi."
Yachi gave her a smile and she returned it with one of her own.
As Kiyoko and Himari walked, the third year could tell that Himari had a lot on her mind.
"Are you alright? After that fight you had?"
Himari sighed and looked up, "Yeah, but Hinata will never improve if Kageyama keeps going the way he is. In fact, the whole team won't. I hate selfish players."
Kiyoko looked at her before smiling, "Yeah, but it will be fine. I'm sure of it."
Himari cracked a smile and nodded, "Whatever you say."
The rest of the walk was silent.
