The day the interhigh preliminaries started, Karasuno confidently walked into the gym. As they were passing by, people began whispering about them and the last time they played against Aoba Johsai.
Eventually, the team found a space to settle down while they waited for their game to start. Himari, Kiyoko, and Yachi were walking around when someone suddenly walked up to them.
"You're Himari Nakamura, right?!"
"Um, yes."
"Please sign this!" The boy shoved a magazine and a black marker in her face.
Himari took the two items and properly looked at the magazine. The cover had her and the other kids from the documentary on it.
"Sure." She quickly signed it and gave it back to the boy who shouted a 'thank you' before running to his own team and showing them.
The three girls walked to their own team where a lot of them were trying not to puke. Himari sighed and nudged Yachi to get out the medicine. The blonde girl nodded and rushed over to anxious players. While Kiyoko went to go and talk to Takeda, Himari decided to wander around the venue.
As she walked around, she saw Seijoh. Oikawa spotted her and waved her over. She walked over and smiled at the team, which they returned.
"Mari, you're practically a celebrity now!" Oikawa exclaimed as he waved the magazine in front of her face. She groaned and snatched it out of his hands, but he took it back.
"Hey, I wanna keep this. You look really pretty in the picture." He told her as he smoothed out the cover and put it in his bag. He looked back at her with a smirk which she returned with one of her own.
"So, are you ready to lose?" He asked.
"We won't, trust me. We have so many new weapons, you won't be able to keep up."
"We'll see about that."
Himari nodded before glancing at the clock. Her eyes widened as she realized it was almost time for Karasuno to play.
"Well, I'll see you guys around, bye!"
"Bye!" The team shouted in unison.
Once she got back to her team, they were walking into the gym. She took some bags from Yachi before settling them down next to Ukai.
"Guys, you need to win cause I can't look like a liar." Himari reminded them.
The team laughed and nodded before going to warm up. After a couple rounds of warmups, the teams thanked each other for the game before getting in their spots for the game.
The whistle blew and Asahi tossed the ball up for a jump serve. That was their first point. Himari and Kiyoko clapped and gave Asahi encouraging smiles.
As the game continued, Himari's smile widened. They were hesitating less than before. They were confident, and she was proud of them.
"They grow up so fast." Himari said. Kiyoko looked at her in amusement and laughed.
"I'm proud of them too."
Eventually, Hinata scored the winning point for the first set with the quick attack. Just as always, the other team was shocked.
"Good job!"
When they were getting ready for the second set, Himari looked over at the other team with a confused look.
How does that guy's hair stay like that? It's like angry birds, she thought to herself.
The second set began and Karasuno immediately took the lead. The other team refused to give up. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough and Karasuno won the second set.
They left the gym and went to go see the next team they would be playing against, only to find that they were playing against a literal giant.
"He's tall." Himari mumbled with wide eyes. She quickly hid behind Suga when the team began walking towards them. Suga patted her head while she watched the giant.
"Play a good game guys, I know you can win." She told them as the team ran into the gym.
On Kakugawa's side, they were in a huddle, "Hyakuzawa, if you play well enough, you might impress Himari Nakamura!" The captain told the tall boy.
Hyakuzawa looked at him confused, "Um, who's that?"
The captain turned Hyakuzawa around and pointed at the brunette, "That pretty girl with the brown hair and glasses. She's the daughter of Daisuke Nakamura, the coach for the men's national volleyball team!"
Hyakuzawa nodded slowly before turning back around. He reassured his teammates that he understood the game before they began warming up themselves.
"I'm scared." Yachi said shakily as she looked at the tall player.
"Was that a spike or did he just throw the ball down?" Himari asked as she cowered with Yachi.
"So scary!"
Himari nodded and hid behind Kiyoko who just sighed and helped the team warm up before they eventually got to their places.
When the whistle blew the game between Karasuno and Kakugawa began.
