Hinata went to do his diagonal jump, and once he spiked it, Tendou blocked it. Hinata and Kageyama looked at the third year with wide eyes. The team recalled what Himari said, finally understanding what she meant.
"I've been wanting to see Tendou's guess blocking in person." Himari said.
"Since when?"
"Yesterday."
Kiyoko chuckled and turned back to the game. Every time the players tried to spike, Tendou stopped them.
Up in the stands, the group of five watched helplessly as the plays kept getting blocked. However, they saw the smile on Himari's face and were confused. They turned to Daisuke to understand what was going on.
"She's just excited. Guess blocking has always been her favorite, because it's fun to watch," he explained.
"She's strange," Takinoue commented.
"Yup, that's my daughter."
Down on the court, Kageyama set to Hinata, but Tendou read it like an open book and blocked him.
"So cool!" Himari exclaimed.
Tendou looked over at the brunette and waved. Himari smiled and gave him a thumbs up to which he laughed and returned it.
Takeda called a timeout and all the players went back to their bench. Himari looked at Kageyama who looked very angry.
"I told you to calm down and not to lose your cool." Himari told him.
"This is my normal face."
"Liar!"
Takeda tapped Himari on the shoulder, making her turn to him.
"How is number five doing that?"
"He's using guess blocking. Basically he is going based on instinct. His body and mind are working in sync with each other. Usually it's hard for an athlete to keep up with their thoughts, but he is able to do it. It's incredible."
Ukai nodded and continued the speech. Soon, the buzzer went off signaling the end of the timeout. Shiratorizawa served first and Daichi received it. Kageyama set it to Hinata who spiked it and got the team a point. Tendou unfortunately seemed to have gotten lost in thought and didn't jump to block.
As the game continued, Tendou blocked the spikes by Karasuno, but he also messed up a lot. When his instincts were wrong, he missed the block.
Soon, the two teams were tied at eleven points. Tendou continued to use his guess blocking, causing Karasuno to get frustrated.
"I don't understand, what's number five's play style?" Takeda asked.
"He likes to block the ball all by himself. He uses it in order to gain points for his team," Himari explained.
"In other words, there is more to blocking than just stopping the ball. If we can manage to block and maintain control, we can pull out ahead," Ukai explained.
When they turned back to the game, the four of them caught Ushiwaka's spike as it landed in Karasuno's court.
"Those two are super fired up." Himari muttered, an irritated smile on her face.
"But if anyone can beat Tendou and Ushiwaka, it's Tsukishima." Himari said, as the blonde blocked Tendou's spike.
"Woohoo!" Ukai and Takeda exclaimed.
After Ushiwaka spiked again, Himari felt a chill. She shivered and pulled her jacket tighter around herself.
"I'm cold."
"I think it's Yamaguchi." Ukai muttered.
The two looked at the freckled first year and saw that he was practically staring a hole through their heads.
"Just wait, Tadashi," Himari said.
The game continued and Tsukishima continued to annoy the other team with his blocking, allowing Karasuno to get more points.
After the play, Suga subbed in for Tsukishima. After the ball was sent back over to Karasuno's side, Suga and Kageyama switched places and did a synchronized attack. Karasuno gained the point with Kageyama's spike.
Coach Washijo made a fuss about Karasuno's playing style which made Himari and Ukai roll their eyes.
"He hasn't changed one bit. He still relies on tall, strong players and if they don't fit that, they don't get to be on the team," Ukai explained.
"Finding a player like Ushiwaka is hard though, so I doubt Shiratorizawa will be anything special in a few years," Himari said.
"Who knows? Only time will tell."
Tadashi was subbed in as a pinch server, but was stopped after one serve. Himari patted his back as he walked back,
"Don't worry about it, Tadashi."
Takeda called a timeout and Ukai gave his usual speech. After that Himari walked up to Tsukishima with a smile.
"What are you smiling for, dork?"
"Do you see it? It's going to happen soon." Himari said excitedly, ignoring the insult.
"What are you talking about?" The tall blond asked.
"Shirabu's getting overwhelmed. He'll botch a set soon, and when that happens you'll block Ushiwaka."
Tsukishima smirked and put his water bottle on Himari's head, "I'll try."
"No, you're going to do it."
"Sure, whatever."
The buzzer sounded and the players went back on to the court, ready to keep playing. Himari was on the edge of her seat.
She could see it. Since Noya started being able to receive Ushiwaka's serves and spikes, Shirabu was getting stressed.
Himari was smiling widely as she watched the players connect their plays. They had finally found their groove.
"It's time for total defense."
