I could hardly contain my excitement as I paced around the room, my face lighting up with a wide grin. The thought of my sisters-in-law— Raeesha, Mithali, Meera, and Priya— coming back to India filled me with a rush of joy. It had been months since I last saw them, and now, they were returning for Rudra's upcoming birthday, followed by Raksha Bandhan. The timing couldn't be more perfect.
I always loved how close-knit the Agnihotri family was, and the fact that the girls were flying back from university and London for these celebrations made it feel even more special. Raeesha, Priya, and Meera had been so busy with their studies abroad, and Mithali will return from London, but now, they are all coming home. The house had already felt lively with Mom, Pragati Bua, Dadi, and Chachu returning earlier, but having all the girls back would bring another level of energy to the villa. I smiled at the thought of Raeesha's playful teasing, Priya's bubbly nature, and how Meera always had a way of making everyone laugh. Mithali, though a bit more reserved, had a sharp wit that never failed to surprise me.
I couldn’t help but feel a little giddy. Rudraksh’ birthday was just around the corner, and I knew the girls would want to plan something special. And then, Raksha Bandhan— it would be my first one with them as their bhabhi. The bond between them and Rudra had always been so beautiful, and I was honoured to be part of it now. I sat down at the edge of the bed, running my fingers over my phone, tempted to call Raeesha to check how their flight was going. But I decided to wait. They would all be here soon enough, and the house would be full of laughter and warmth once again. I couldn’t wait for all the moments we would share, from planning surprises for Rudra to celebrating Raksha Bandhan together. It was going to be perfect. It was already past ten in the night and here I am sitting in my bedroom as I waited for Rudraksh' text, who had gone to pick them up from the airport.
Earlier in the day, I had spent hours in the kitchen, pouring my heart into baking some treats for the girls. Knowing how much Raeesha, Mithali, Meera, and Priya loved homemade goodies, I couldn’t help but try something special for them. They had always raved about my baking, and I wanted to surprise them with their favourites— chocolate chip cookies, a batch of lemon bars, and a simple but rich chocolate cake. I had made sure the goodies were neatly packed away, keeping them fresh. My thoughts wandered to how Raeesha had a sweet tooth, how Mithali couldn’t resist lemon-flavoured desserts, and how Meera and Priya would probably fight over the last slice of cake.
I was a little tired from all the effort but satisfied. Tomorrow was going to be exciting, with all the girls properly rested and making the villa lively once again with their chatters and banters and I was happy knowing that I had something special waiting for them. After all, it wasn’t just about the food— it was about showing them how much I had missed them, how much they meant to me now that I was a part of this family.
