It was well past 2 a.m., and the Agnihotri villa was silent, save for the faint hum of the air conditioning. In the dim light of the bedroom, Yuvika stirred in her sleep. Her face was peaceful, but her body moved mechanically, as though caught in a trance.

Without waking, she pushed the blanket aside and slowly got out of bed, her eyes half-closed, unfocused. Her bare feet touched the cool floor as she walked toward the bedroom door, her steps unsteady but determined. Reaching the door, Yuvika stood there for a moment, then turned her body toward it, her hand gently pressing against the smooth wood. She leaned forward, her forehead making soft contact with the door.

And then, as if caught in an endless loop, Yuvika took a few steps back, only to walk straight into the door again.

Thud.

She did it again.

Thud.

Over and over, her body repeated the motion, mindlessly walking into the closed door with quiet force. Her forehead gently knocked against the wood, leaving a faint but constant sound echoing through the room.

Thud. Thud.

Unaware of the small red mark forming on her skin, Yuvika continued, trapped in the grip of sleepwalking. The dull thudding was rhythmic, eerily consistent, as she walked into the door again, her mind far away from the present.

She didn’t wake, didn’t pause, simply kept repeating the action, her body locked in a dreamlike state, unaware of the gentle pain and confusion her actions would bring once morning came.

Rudraksh returned to the Agnihotri villa well past midnight, the sounds of the nightclub still faintly ringing in his ears. The night had been long, filled with conversations and drinks with his friends, but his mind had frequently drifted back to Yuvika, wondering if she had truly been alright.

The villa was bathed in quiet, with only the soft glow of a few lights illuminating the entrance. As he entered through the main door, the familiar scent of home surrounded him, offering a sense of comfort. He loosened the collar of his shirt, feeling the slight heaviness from the night out, and walked through the grand hallway toward the kitchen, his steps slow but steady.

Reaching the kitchen, he flicked on the light, its soft glow casting a warm shadow over the counters and cabinets. He pulled open the refrigerator, the cold air brushing against his face as he reached for a bottle of chilled water. Unscrewing the cap, Rudraksh took a long sip, the cool liquid soothing the dryness in his throat. He leaned back against the counter, exhaling as he felt the tension of the night start to dissipate.

The villa was eerily silent, and the peace it brought allowed his mind to wander to Yuvika again. He couldn’t shake the worry from earlier in the evening, despite her reassurances. He glanced at the clock on the wall— it was well past 2 a.m. Would she be awake or fast asleep?
